One Week With Willow.
Hi all,
Well it's been one week since Willow arrived and I am glad to report she has stacked on the weight!
I am actually surprised at how quickly she has gained weight. I have been feeding her pellets every day along with the usual bunny diet (hay, fresh grass, some veg and some fruit treats) and they seem to have really helped her to gain some body condition.
Just looking at her she seems so much brighter, more alert, and just looks happy.
She's been getting better each day; she now runs up to me and nudges my hand. She still hides if anyone moves too quickly, but she comes back out once she realises what happened.
I've wanted her to get to know us and to feel safe before we made any changes.. she's got her hutch and run which is her 'safe place' and I think she knows that now. I caught her chinning everything so it's safe to say she has officially taken ownership of her 'home'!
So given it's been one week, and she's made some progress, I decided to let her loose today! I left her hutch open and sat patiently on the deck hoping she would come out and explore.
And this is what she did:
She binkied! And she kept it up for a good 15 minutes before she flopped onto her side, exhausted! It was the first time in her life she had the freedom to run and jump!!!
Such a lovely sight.
We are heading to the vet next week for a thorough check up. I am staying positive, but worry we won't get the happy ending we want, as I found a lump on her side today. I am hoping it's something harmless, if there is such a thing.
I will keep you posted.

Re: One Week With Willow.
She is looking fabulous and I love the binky pic
I'm really pleased she is gaining confidence and trust in you - what a lucky bunny she is to have ended up with you.
Our two rescue buns are the ones who are most active and run around binkying the most - Humum has a theory that after a period in rescue they know how lucky they are to be in a loving home, no matter how good the rescue is they just can't possibly have the space and attention that they have in a forever home. So if that is true for rabbits which have been in rescue for a short period, perhaps it's even more so for buns which have always been kept in a confined space and never had proper care.
I really hope the lump on Willow's side turns out to be harmless and easily dealt with

Re: One Week With Willow.
Thanks, I hope so too. We'll do whatever it takes to make Willow healthy so she can have the life she deserves.
I think she's going to be a big 'binky-er'. She went mad today! She was just so happy and excited. She let me lay beside her and pat her for a while too (that's when I noticed the lump, because it's the first time she's really let pat her all over).
She has a cheeky side too Sparky.. like you.

Re: One Week With Willow.
How wonderful - I bet she cannot believe her luck to be with you and so beautifully cared for.
I will keep everything crossed that this lump is nothing sinister and she gets to have the long and wonderful life she deserves.
Please keep us updated - this little lady has touched my heart x
Jodie you are a Fairy Godmother of bunnies x

Re: One Week With Willow.
Thanks everyone.
I'll keep you all updated, our vet appointment is this coming Saturday so hopefully I will have an idea of what this lump might be, and maybe some more information about her general health (and age).
