special needs / disabled bunnies
Once we are settled into our new house in a few months, I would like to rehome a disabled or special needs bunny. maybe one that can only be a single bunny or generally one that will be overlooked for other reasons.
Where can i find special needs buns in need of a forever home?
Thanks

Re: special needs / disabled bunnies
I know Rescues sometimes take in Buns with problems that make it impossible to rehome them.
Jill ( HoneyBunny ) has quite a few 'Dental Buns' I think. Dental Buns can need more than just regular Veterinary treatment. Some need help cleaning themself, they may have permanently gunky eyes that need daily attention.
They sometimes need their food made soft so they can eat and their GI function needs careful monitoring.
It would be lovely if you could offer a Bun like this a home of their own
Looking after a Special Needs Rabbit is very rewarding.

All our bunnies are special needs and it is very rewarding, some have the most horrendous stories to tell, we also have some looking for a very special home, you are welcome to come and visit or chat to us at any time, what part of the country are you?

Re: special needs / disabled bunnies
What about taking on aggressive rabbits? Nobody seems to specialise in this area, and there are lots come into rescue, and lots PTS (not by the rescues on here I hasten to add!).
I suppose it depends what amount of free time you have...genuinely disabled rabbits (i.e. with paralysis, incontinence, etc) are very time consuming, but some 'unhomable' rabbits are very easy to care for.

Re: special needs / disabled bunnies
well i work full time but i wil be able to come on lunches if need be.
I guess it would limit the kind of bun i could take in though....hadn't really thought of it like that, just kinda got excited!
Behavioural buns would be fine as i've had one before who had huge issues but i worked really slowly with her and she came round to be a gorgeous friendly little thing. Rehomed her to a couple down in Bucks and get weekly updates as to how they are doing. She has really come into her own now.
Do you have any pics or descriptions?
I'm in Wetherby, moving to Harrogate in a few months. (fingers crossed!)

You'll have access to one of the top bunny vets in Harrogate, which is important when taking on buns with health problems...I'm jealous
