some sad news :(
I haven't been on here for a while...again...
I have lost 2 of my girls, Annabelle & Hazel.
Its a long story really. About a month ago I went out to feed the buns in the morning and noticed Hazel was a little quite, although still mental as ever and wouldn't let me touch her, so didn't think anything of it.
When hubby got home he went to say hello to them all and commented how quiet Hazel was, she even let him touch her! So I knew something wasn't right :S
Went out a couple hours later with veggies and she sat happily munching, but allowed me to stroke her, which is VERY un-usual!
I told hubby I wasn't happy and we agreed to take her to the vets the next morning.
Hubby went out later that night to shut them away and found her dead in the shed
We took her to the vets to be cremated, and the vet suggested it may have been a heart problem.
Very upset about it.
Anyway, last week I went to let the rabbits out first thing and noticed Annie didn't run out into the garden as she usually does, she sat and ate her pellets then wondered out into the garden slowly. I went to touch her and she bolted..thank god, she was normal!
Danny comes home, gives them veggies and brings Annie inside and said she seemed 'off' so I went out to tesco and bought her some fresh herbs, which she tucked into. Shut them in for the night as normal.
Next morning I checked them, she seemed brighter but not right, so off to the vets we went.
Vets commented on how fit she seemed, no discharge, tummy fine, but her lungs a bit noisy so said possible pasterella, but it was great that we caught it really early. She was given a jab and sent home with 7 day course of baytril.
I gave her some when we got home then put her back with the others, went out for the day with family, only to get home later that evening to find she had died!
We took her back to the vets the next morning to be cremated and the vet was very shocked.
She said there was no sign that she would of gone so quickly when she examined her the day before and even the vet nurse commented on how healthy she seemed apart from slightly noisy lungs...nobody was expecting this to be the outcome
So now I only have my 2 buns Opal & Charlie, it seems so quiet without the 2 monsters...
Just thought Id let everyone know.

Pasteurella is a nasty, nasty illness - we have lost 3 to it. I would advise that if you see the slightest sign of sneezing or wet nose in either of the others, you get them straight onto anti-biotics. I'd also fight for something other than Baytril - the vast majority of people caring for buns with Pasteurella believe it is almost completely ineffective, and that has been our experience. I have Alamycin but it has to be given by injection every 3 days.
Once again, I'm really sorry to hear about your girls, and I hope the other two remain healthy and well
