Dillon the rescue rabbit died.
I just had a phone call from the rescue lady to tell me that she found Dillon dead in his hutch this morning He passed away in his sleep.
I know I only had him for 24 hours but I'm really upset by this. He was only 16 months old. He had been eating the grass in his run and nibbling bits of carrot, went to bed fine at 9pm and died overnight.
I don't get it? Why did he die? Could it have been the stress of coming to me then going on the the rescue? If I'd have kept him would he have been fine? Would he have died anyway? He was so beautiful and so young. I feel really sad. I just don't understand.

Re: Dillon the rescue rabbit died.
Aww how sad
Iv had 2 buns go like this and it is heartbreaking. Healthy bunnies going from being the picture of health to dying in the space of just hours.
Dont blame youself, he sounds like he wasn't too phased by the moves, otherwise he wouldn't be eating.
R.I.P little one xx

Oh dear no! that was the little beautiful orange Rex wasn't it, how sad
I don't think it is anything to do with what you have done or stress just maybe he had an underlying
problem. I'm so sorry .

Re: Dillon the rescue rabbit died.
Without a PM you are never going to know the answer to this. My guess would be that he had some sort of underlying health issues that led to his death.

Re: Dillon the rescue rabbit died.
you always try and blame yourself, what if i did this, what if i did that and there is just "no" answer, try and remember,in those 24 hours,he had the best time with you,so he passed away happy and i agree with the above,if he was upset with all the move, then he wouldnt have been eating

I'm sorry to hear about poor Dhillon, but please do not feel guilty, as everyone else has said there must have been an underlying problem.

Re: Dillon the rescue rabbit died.
Im so sorry to hear this.
I agree with everyone else - it sounds like the little guy was already poorly.
You did a brilliant thing rescueing him hunni, because in his last hours he was warm, fed, cared for and safe.

I'm in complete agreement with everyone else though - there must have been some sort of underlying problem and you did a brilliant thing by handing him over to the rescue. His last few days were happy ones where he was loved and well cared for, and that's thanks to you.
Binky free at the bridge beautiful boy.

Re: Dillon the rescue rabbit died.
So saddened to hear this. Even though you had him just a very
brief time you showed him what true love and caring was. That
is a beautiful thing and one I wish all God's creatures could
experience.
Sweet Dillon must have had an underlying health problem. The
fancier breeds do have more problems. Binky free velvety

Re: Dillon the rescue rabbit died.
Poor Dillon but how nice that he got a few days of freedom first
I've heard that a lot of sudden, unexplained bunny deaths can be down to pasteurella. It can cause lesions on the organs like our Molly had, without presenting respiratory symptoms. VTB - maybe it was 'meant to be' that he did not stay with you long enough to pass on a nasty strain of pasteurella to your other buns....
I'm sorry that you are sad, be proud you got him out of his previous 'home'
