Hi,

I just got my order of "green oat hay" from the hay experts. It seems to be quite damp though with some white fluffy bits on some of the hay - has anyone had this? is this normal and safe for Myrtle to eat?

The last time I ordered the green oat hay it was dry and different to this but they offer it in two types of cut and I don't know which cut it is.

All advice is appreciated!

Wet straw is mentioned in this thread:

The same rules would apply to hay.

I have had a dodgy bag of green oat hay from them before. I put some of it in Molly and Junior's litter tray and they were ignoring it, so I stuck my head in the bang and it stank pale I put it in the bin. I'd had for a few month though, so I didn't feel I could complain to them.

Hi,

My whole shed smells strange now though

The spores from what was growing on the hay that may have gotten out in your shed. You
may need to give it a good scrub and let it dry completely.

don't worry! Myrtle never goes in the shed - it's too full of junk, lawnmowers, sharp things, motorbike bits/oil and probably has all kinds of spores/toxins in it! it was just a space to dump the hay whilst I heard back from hay experts cheers
