Indoor g, piggie set up ideas
We are thinking about getting a piggie or 2, it willbe indoors beside us so if got 1 would get loads of time with the family, was lookinh into set ups that can be moved about easy if choose to rearrange my sitting room. Would this set up be suitable for piggies.

You might have been here already, but there's a lot of pictures of different indoor setups here
Hope that helps

Bearing in mind the issues you had with the rats, I would not recommend you keep piggies indoors. They are not clean animals at all and are hard to litter train to the level that rabbits are.

I must agree we don't have guinea pigs ourselves but the ones that board with us wee and poop everywhere and I have to change all their bed and hay every day else they would smell

Re: Indoor g, piggie set up ideas
All you can do it put them on a thick layer of megazorb and skip it out a couple of times a day. But they will still smell, and cost you a fortune in bedding.
Not to mention that really for best health piggies need to munch on grass just like rabbits.

We have them on paper covered with hay and then their little houses to hide and sleep in and when you take the houses out to clean them out they are just wet and poos and bits of uneaten food where they have been. I have to take out 4 full newspapers every day and most of the hay.
Do you think megazorb would be better Cheryl?

It keeps everything drier. Especially all the hidey holes. I often see online people keeping their pigs in fleeces - it brings me out in a sweat at the amount of washing that must need to be done.

We use megazorb a lot so will try it in the guinea pig indoor cages in future especially if it keep's everything drier.
Yes I've seen guinea pigs kept on fleeces and thought they must have to wash them every day
Thanks for that Cheryl

Re: Indoor g, piggie set up ideas
I've kept my piggies on fleece before and every poo shows up so easilyand it does smell bad within 24 hours, plus the hay sticks to the fleece and you have to flap it about outside with hay and poop flying everywhere Not nice.
Hay and newspaper is ok but you need to change it everyday esle it is very soggy. Megazorb is mega expensive so I have found the best solution is mix the zorb with shavings and spot clean everyday with a full clean out once a week.

Re: Indoor g, piggie set up ideas
I have two sows. I agree, keep piggies in pairs!
My girls live in a C&C cage indoors (2 grids x 4 grids) which is plenty big enough for them (if not a big too big, they never use the space!). They are definitely messy little critters. My girls get a thick layer of newspaper followed by about half a recycling sack of shredded paper. I have to spot clean as I go, top up the paper in between cleans and fully clean them out once a week. But I agree with fall3n-ang3l, it's all worth it - they're adorable little things!

I agree Fluffslave love, I couldn't be without my piggies. We clean ours out every third day and there are no unpleasant smells.
