Dry ears Empty Dry ears

Post by FluffSlave Thu Sep 13, 2012 6:26 pm

Wilby's ears are a bit dry at the front and behind. There's normally an abundance of really soft hair there but it's gone. The skin is not red or inflammed at all and she's not itching them, I think the skin's just a bit dry. It is a bit scaly. Anything I can do?

You could try some Johnson's tea tree skin cream which is widely available.

As long as you are sure it is not mites.

Thanks Cheryl. I'm pretty sure it's not. I'll treat her with that and see how it goes. It just looks like dry skin to me...

Sometimes when they get mites the ears can become dry and scurvy, if Willow has like dandruff or white specks anywhere else in his fur it could be mites. Check the back of his neck.

Willow's neck has loads of soft hair all over it, and no dandruff/scurfy looking skin anywhere else. I will hopefully pick up some of the teatree stuff over the week if it doesn't get better, although it's got no worse/better since? scratch

On very rare occasions recently I've found Jeeves had the odd bit of dry skin come off and laid on his back with fur still attached. It's white and sort of scaly as you described but no mites to be seen.

Willow's ears seem to be better now and I think the hair has grown back. She hasn't been scratching them/appearing overly distressed about it so I imagine it was just a touch of dry skin Thumbs Up
