What breed?
I went to get insurance for Nibbler as I decided it was better to be safe than sorry, but when I went to look for a quote I realised I don't really know what breed Nibbler is. He was given to us with very vague information, the majority of the information turned out to be wrong in the end, and when I've asked the vet she said she wasn't sure, he could be English or Dutch? Both of these seem off to me.. he definitely doesn't have the ears of an English and I've seen so many different names and descriptions for dutch rabbits I don't know where to start there! I can't remember who the first vet who saw him at my practice was, I don't think she was rabbit savvy which is why she didn't say.
At the end of the day, I haven't got much experience with rabbits so I haven't a clue. I've spent many hours trying to figure it out but I just can't be sure. I figure the best way to get a good judgement on what breed he is is to ask HH as I'm sure someone will be able to help!
I've tried to post a few photo's of him from different angles to try and show as much of him as possible!
Love this photo so much
I find his little squashed face on this one really funny, he looks really strange!
We were told 'he doesn't chew wires' when we first got him (lies!) and this picture was taken before he got settled and nibbled any and taught us to take them away! I shake my head at myself everytime I see this..

Re: What breed?
Well, he is definitely a lop eared rabbit
As to what sort of lop, I am not really sure. Dwarf lops and mini lops are at the smaller end of the spectrum and French lops are at the larger end. Depending on his weight he may come in as a dwarf lop. He is very handsome by the way
TBH - there must be oodles of buns that cannot be assigned a particular breed. On Spring's vaccination card where it asks for breed I have written 'Smallish uppy eared harlequinish bun'

Re: What breed?
I would declare him as a lop cross. Dwarf lops are between 1.9kg and 2.4kg. Mini lops are around 1.5kg. German lops are between 3-4kgs. French lops are around 4.5kgs. He does not have the ears or nose to be and english lop or indeed the size. I would guess that he is a dwarf lop as defined by the BRC standards.

Re: What breed?
He is oh so pretty!!!!
When I put Molly and Junior in to get neutered, both sets of paperwork came back with "lop eared rabbit" on them

Re: What breed?
I can't help with his breed either, but I'm so pleased to see lots of piccies of him
Is there not an option for crossbreed? I think that's what Roo is down as (there was no Norty Ginger Madam option).

Were they holding them upside-down?Thumper2001 wrote:He is oh so pretty!!!!

Re: What breed?
Molly and Junior are "crossbreed rabbit" on their insurance docs
I think it was done before they met Molly and Junior and had just assumed
Junior would trip on his ears if they were loppy
I just laughed out loud at thatSparky wrote:I can't help with his breed either, but I'm so pleased to see lots of piccies of him

Re: What breed?
Nibbler is beautiful! I think Nibbler is either a dwarf lop or mini lop...I thought my Myrtle was a mini lop, she was 2.5kg at before she went on a diet now is 2kg

Re: What breed?
thank you everyone for your thoughts and examples of funny descriptions, this whole thread has had me chuckling away for ages! Going to go get some quotes for him now
I do think he's rather beautiful, I find myself getting lost just staring at him sometimes, I think my OH gets rather jealous when I do

Re: What breed?
Here in the USA Nibbler would probably be classified as a Holland Mini Lop. They range from 4-5.5lbs. Just Nibbler's size!
