Hanging basket/ hay rack
So, confession time.... My bunnies dont have a hay rack
They have hay of course...but I put it into their litter trays each day.
I was thinking of putting some hanging baskets in their shed and filling with hay...Im going to get some of that hay4pets hay and think its too good to put in a litter tray for them to poop on...

Re: Hanging basket/ hay rack
We had ours in a hanging basket. It was the sort that has a flat side that screws to the wall rather than the dangly sort. I think it was about £1.50 from wilkos.

Re: Hanging basket/ hay rack
I think they are a brilliant idea for hay, I've seen a few shed's and wendy houses with hanging basket's in full of hay and the half moon baskets ( like a small horse hay rack) always look nice full of hay to

Re: Hanging basket/ hay rack
Mine do have hay racks but they just pull all the hay out and stand on it, so I just fill their litter trays every morning and they just eat it all during the day.

Re: Hanging basket/ hay rack
I used to put it in litter trays too and didnt use a hay rack, that was when i used farm hay and it was £5 a bale. HFP is lovely hay, but too expensive to waste. They still eat a lot from their hay rack now, but the bigger the better. I find the Wilkinsons wall basket good, along with my C&C one that i made for Marley adn Dolly.

Re: Hanging basket/ hay rack
My piggies have a nice sized cheap wall basket that I bought in Asda. And the buns currently have an ikea plastic bag holder which are also cheap. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60128661/
They all pull out the hay but not normally all at once and tbh I just pick up the cleanish stuff on the top of the pile and stuff it back in the rack.

My little Boo has a hay ball but never bothers with it. He does however love the hay in the box.

We had one of the Wilko's half-basket things too. Gizmo pulled out the bits he fancied and ignored the rest. I hid from it

In the past my 2 have told me that it doesn't taste right if they haven't peed/cr*pped on it first.

Princess A says she must have her hay in her carrot shaped ceramic bowl. Hay rack is not acceptable. Hay tube is not acceptable. Hay ball is not acceptable....and etc.

Re: Hanging basket/ hay rack
That's how Humum got me eating hay - by presenting it to me in a bowl as food. I eat more now that I have Gizmo too...gentl wrote:Princess A says she must have her hay in her carrot shaped ceramic bowl. Hay rack is not acceptable. Hay tube is not acceptable. Hay ball is not acceptable....and etc.

Re: Hanging basket/ hay rack
Mine have a huge litter tray full in the morning and the next day there is just a little pile left and a huge pile of poo - lovely big fat golden ones.
