Knew it would be a mistake.
Despite vowing that I would not spend a penny in there again, Chris and I had to visit a local pet shop as my delivery of cat food had not turned up despite being promised this week and this is the only shop that sells it locally.
Of course, the cat food was next to the bunny adoption 'pens'. There were two lop sisters, split up and there because they had been fighting. Because I am still very fragile at the moment it upset me dreadfully. I hope that a good home comes along for these bunnies. I pray for the day that selling rabbits in pet shops is outlawed.

Re: Knew it would be a mistake.
Hope you are ok
I send Mike in pet shop's now as I can't bare it as I find the hutches they have the rabbits in far to small and the bunnies always look so sad we rescued two 8 years ago from a pet shop and got the place shut down in the process, besides the baby rabbits being far to young to leave their Mother's the two that we got out of there were in a dreadful state and when we pointed out that both baby rabbit's needed urgent veterinary treatment the owner said he would ring the breeder to 'swap them', well we knew what that meant and said we would have them.
We took them straight to our vet's, one of them ended up blind and Mike bathed his eyes twice a day every day of his life as he had no tear ducts and Gypsy who we still have had scarring to one eye. The breeders premises were searched and they were not very clean from what we were told and he ended up in prison

Re: Knew it would be a mistake.
we are decided that as much as we can we will use places that don't sell animals - off to jollyes today for animal supplies. We are voting with our wallets! Although I know sometimes needs must.
the most upsetting thing I saw was in dobbies garden centre. Adult Syrian hamsters sharing cages and therefore fighting. One had a large, bleeding sore on its back, looked like a bite. We told them they were now too big to be sharing a cage, but we're fobbed off with some bullsh*t that we knew was nonsense (we know about hamsters). We now buy nothing there.

Thank you for your support - that really is the last time I go in there. They have stopped selling the brand of cat food that Paddy eats anywhere so now there is no need to go there even in desperation.
There were 8/9 people/children cooing over the baby rabbits that they sell too. At this point Chris directed me pretty sharpish to the door before I got on my soapbox.
There are two small pet shops nearby that sells animals too - I don't go in them. One of them has had dealings with the RSPCA in the past over the rabbits that they breed and sell, but they still do it I cannot understand why garden centres feel the need to sell pets either.
