Meet my 4 piggies :)
Hi everyone I don't think I mentioned I had piggies before? anyway I have 4 little wheeky pigs Yesterday they went out in the run for some exercise and really enjoyed themselves. Umm my pigs have a bit of a story how i ended up with 4 so I will start the story now then pictures after I will try and paragraph this looooooooong thread
So In January this year we decided to get 2 Guinea pigs for my 15th Birthday, my bridge piggy Twiglet was put to sleep in December 2011 :'( he was nearly 7 he suffered with a few illnesses and one day he collapsed and he had to be pts anyway some old friends of ours well I cant say they are really friends they use to live in our Village year ago and I went to primary with the children ( they're not children anymore ) anyhow they live really far away now about 4-5 hours I believe and we have been Fb friends again for a year or so..
Im getting confused now so I did not realise they were Guinea pig breeders at the time, I just thought they had the odd litter or whatever, anyway I seen they put some pictures on Facebook of some baby piggies and I was like awww and that so we phoned them and arranged to pick them up on the 8th Januray this year.. we did not meet at their house we met at South Mimms service station which is halfway for us and them... so we got 2 girls and we called them Ruby & Daisy and they were 5 weeks old
Anyway it wasn't until about 20th February I started noticing that Daisy was Getting Bigger and I could feel like a lump, so we were really worried and we went to the vets (old vets, we have since moved to better vets ) Um our old vets are really useless, he had never seen a pregnant guinea pig so they did an ultrasound and could see a heart beat.. he suspected 2 babies and that they should be here in about 3 weeks.. anyway we were just relieved that it was not a tumour, but we were not happy that she was pregnant at such a young age.. also forgot to say Ruby was checked and she was female
I'm sorry i am making literally no sense.. this is an old story and taking me ages to re think and write
So we phone our 'friends' to tell them and find out who could of got Daisy pregnant, we were told there was only 1 male out of the 2 litters that were together , so Daisy got impregnated by her brother! we were so worried whether she would be okay, if there were going to be complications, will the baby be deformed because of them being inbred.
Anyway we were waiting and waiting for Daisy to give birth, then on 15th March this year she gave birth to 1 little handsome chap whom we named Edmondo anyway we made sure we separated him at 21 days (3 weeks) well we did it at 19 days to be sure.. thankfully he was fine, no complications and a healthy baby luckily..
Ugh i really do not like breeders, I am pro rescue now and would not get a pet from a breeder again.. I was not that knowledgeable on guinea pig rescues back earlier this year but in the future I will definitely be getting rescue pigs aswell as buns, Pickle is our first rescue bunny
oh yeah forgot to say we found out that they kept Jasper the brother in until 4 weeks so no wonder Daisy got pregnant !!!!!!!! anyway as Edmondo would be lonely before he was old enough to be separated we decided that we would phone them and see if they had his dad ( Daisy's brother) so Edmondo would not be lonely... they gave me him for free ... they get on great....
Sorry for all this blabber, most of it probably does not make any sense, so i am sorry breeders make me want to
Originally I was not going to introduce the pigs in case anyone thought I had bred them or something
The girls saying hello in the run Ruby left, Daisy right , they are half sisters and are 11 months
With a feast
This is Daisy who had to go through so much :/
This is Ruby
So going onto the boys.....Jasper the dad ( brother of Daisy and half brother of Ruby) is the dark piggy with the grass in his mouth and Edmondo is the other
Daddy Jasper left.. Edmondo right

They're all so gorgeous!!
Gosh can't believe Daisy was pregnant so young, I know it can happen but it makes you think she hasn't even grown up herself.
I'm glad Edmondo (cute name!) was ok, him and Jasper are such pretty colours.
Thanks for showing us more of your furbaby family!

Re: Meet my 4 piggies :)
Wow they are very cute and beautiful colours.
Don't go worrying about people here judging you. We all know how easy it is to be caught out. I have 4 piggies, all girls. Long story short I took 3 pigs from my knowledgeable local rescue who were overrun with guinea pigs after a huge rescue operation that flooded the local rescues with small animals. All 3 girls were pregnant but it wasn't until I phoned the rescue and told them my 3 all were pregnant that they became aware that most of the animals were pregnant and had to stop rehoming the ones that they had still at the centre until they were clear that there were no more babies to come. Luckily because the pigs were in poor health they only had 4 babies between them and the rescues took back the 2 boys. Unfortunately one of the mums died soon after due to a massive mass on her lungs probably caused by the poor living conditions they had been living in prior to rescue. The point being that anyone can get caught out and that no one will judge you for that.
Whilst we are pro rescue here we do understand that some people have perfectly legitimate reasons to have animals that are not from rescue.

100% agree with you Cheryl.
Nobody will judge you here, before I adopted Jeeves from a rescue I bought Tigger from a pet shop without knowing any better.

Re: Meet my 4 piggies :)
Well first of all, can I just say that your piggies are stunning
I agree with everyone else - this forum is the best I have been on. Forums I have used in the past have been so judgemental and critical of you that it really does spoil the experience. HH is such a friendly place to be, so you don't need to worry about that
A similar thing happened to me with my chinchillas. I got them from someone who I thought was legitimate (I have since found out not so much!) as two "brothers", and then one day I came home to find two chinchilla kits. Because my cage was not baby chin safe (I wasn't exactly expecting any!), one of the poor things had fallen through the cage and was dead on my floor. He/she either died on landing or starved to death which is a terrible thought, and I kick myself constantly for going out that day and always think "what if"
Our other kit, Pancake, survived for about 10 days but he was never very active and then a few days before we lost him he stopped gaining weight, and then we came home to find him gone too - the vet thinks it was maybe an internal defect from being inbred.
Our male chinny is now neutered and they still live happily together
Anyway, the aim of that long story was to let you know you're not alone in being caught out! Mojo is my first rescue bun, I also got Willow as an impulse buy from a pet shop and she is the best thing that ever happened to me, but if I'd have known about rescues like I do now back then, I would have definitely thought twice.

Re: Meet my 4 piggies :)
I did the same love when we first had piggies, an oops litter arrived. We did keep them all but what the ladies above have said we don't judge, just want to help. Your piggies are adorable by the way, such little darlings.
