Buttons is getting a girlfriend! :)
I went to my local RSPCA centre today and have reserved a bunny to me a girlfriend to buttons! She is called miffy and is white and brown, you can see her here: http://www.rspcacornwall.org.uk/animals/rabbits/rabbits.html
I've now got to wait for them to do a home check, does anyone know what this entails??
Then all being well buttons will have a wife soon!!

Oh Wow! Miffy is gorgeous Oh I hope it all works out for Buttons.
When they do a home check they will have a chat with you and may ask you some questions and look at the accommodation for your bunnies to make sure that's it's big enough and that your garden if you are keeping them outside is safe.
I'm sure you will have no problems at all

Re: Buttons is getting a girlfriend! :)
Yes I do. I was home checked for Murtle a while back from the same centre but Florence did herself an injury when another bun came to stay for a while so I never went through with it. A elderly gentleman came and looked around the house - but completely missed the fact that I had a garden! They check that you know roughly what you are doing, that the buns will have enough space and that your home is suitably bun proof. Flo also came from St Columb and her home check was much more thorough, but I suspect they have relaxed things for house rabbits a bit.

Lucky Buttons
A home check is painless, the one I had for Dougal she basically came with a check list (the three hops rule, safe accommodation etc) and in addition asked questions about who looks after them when you go away, whos your vet and bits like that.
I'm actually now really good friends with the lady who done the home check!

My homechecker for Mojo was lovely. She just came along with the forms, we'd already chatted on the phone quite a bit, looked around the set up I was going to put him in and handed him over.
I think it helped that she could see Willow had nice accommodation too - so I'm sure you'll be fine

Is that the same Murtle that is still there? she is beautiful but far too big for buttons! They actually have loads of rabbits there, but not many on the website which is a bit confusing!
I hope they are ok with our flat! I spent all day yesterday moving around furniture to try and make a bigger space for bonding them etc, but it all looked horrible and didn't work with the space of our flat so then had to move it all back! but I couldn't sleep lastnight worrying that they don't like our home and don't let me have her!! (they are sill quite backwards at that rspca centre, they are still under the impression that you must have constant access to grass 24/7 for a rabbit to be allowed one, and that house rabbits are not a good idea, but luckily Miffy used to be a house bunny so they were ok for me to reserve her. I could have given Daisy a lovely home (as she is a little disabled) but they said they are not willing for her to be a house bunny as she needs lots of space!! How is free range of my entire flat less space than a hutch and run in a garden?! Anyway that's my rant over! Cheryl, did you have a similar experience with them?

They don't provide bonding services really at this RSPCA, they said they could put them in one of the runs but as its outside and buttons has lived his life in a flat, it will prob stress him out too much! But I'm sure I will be ok, I have you guys for help, and several people near by that I've made friends with through Marias animal shelter that can come help or even take them to theirs for some neutral territory.

Re: Buttons is getting a girlfriend! :)
ooo maybe a stupid question... but if the home check goes ok and I can go and collect her, is there anything anyone can recommend to put in her cage or do to make it all less scary for her? I'm going to go and buy 2nd set of bowls tomorrow as I realised at 4am this morning I don't even have a bowl for her water or food!!

I just gave Mojo a little cardboard box upturned with an entrance - he spent most of his time hiding in there until he settled.

thats good as I was thinking cardboard boxes might be order of the day while she settles in!
*I AM FREAKING OUT!* I collapsed at work today so one of the girls drove me home, and 2 mins after I get home my phone rings and it was the woman asking if she can come do a home check tonight!! AHHH! I can barely sit up without feeling dizzy and ill, this is just what I need!!

Re: Buttons is getting a girlfriend! :)
Yes Lizzie it is the same Murtle. I was hoping that Flo wouldn't have a go because of Murtle's size but after seeing Flo's response to the bun that stayed with us I couldn't take the chance.
I have been to the centre many times over the last few years. Their attitude has certainly improved in regards to rabbits. As I said, on my check they weren't too bothered about the outside space other than to ask me that I did give adequate hay. Their set ups for buns used to be much smaller as well but they have really improved it with their extra runs. Although they have small animals there, up until recent years I think their focus has been on the cats and dogs. I think RSPCA areas with specialist small animal units are generally much more knowledgable and more flexible with their rehoming. Or maybe they are just more desperate!
