We have had about another 3 inches fall overnight and it's been snowing all morning

Re: Still Snowing here
Still snowing here too. Snowed all day yesterday, and has been since about 11 this morning.
<sigh>
I think everyone's fed up of it now, aren't we?

Still snowing here...
I really felt for the Tesco delivery man today - he looked freezing and hen he was carrying the crates he was slipping all over the place. Our street is pretty dicey too.
He was telling me a colleague of his was meant to be delivering to Rothbury in Northumberland - I'd say he has 2 hopes of that, or if he gets there he'll struggle to get back.
Also really feel for the emergency services. I've got a friend who's a paramedic in Suffolk and she says it's just a nightmare.

Re: Still Snowing here
You wouldn't believe it here now, we have thick snow and the sun is shining down like a Summer's day...but still very cold .
I always feel sorry for anyone who has to drive in this sort of weather especially at night when the roads are even worse.

Re: Still Snowing here
Snow is lovely - until you reach an age where work, shopping and other responsibilities become important.
Thankfully we have not had enough here to cause problems on the roads, all the main roads are clear. I did allow myself the luxury of not going into work yesterday. I only work 4 hours in afternoon and given we live at the top of a hill I didn't want to risk my precious car.
I was actually suprised that school was open given that some of the kids travel 30+ miles or so (it is a private school) but today I found out that if school does close all the parents get given back £50. I can see now why the school won't close intil it really really has to!

Re: Still Snowing here
You know what though? When I was a kid, there was no such thing as a "snow day" unless you lived way out in the sticks.
We went to school, our parents went to work, and the world didn't end.
I often think it's people having a lend to be honest - and I bet some of the first to ring in to say they can't get in would be the first to complain if their doctor or someone cancelled an appointment due to snow.
I got to work yesterday just in time for the boss to send everyone home. There was absolutely no need - public transport was running (although not to timetable) and the roads were fine as long as you drove sensibly. She insisted I go home, even though I was quite happy to stay.
I appreciate it's not pleasant. I appreciate that for some people it just isn't physically possible to get out and about. But I think that people are too quick to say "there's an inch of snow, I couldn't possibly leave the house and work/go to school."
Perhaps I'm mean!

That's so true as I can remember me moaning to Mum that I didn't want to go to school as we had snow but I had to go and everybody turned up and the school never closed.
I was a groom with horses and I had to be there for 6:00 am in the morning snow, ice, gales and I never complained my first job of the day would be going round the fields getting the ice of the water trough's and most times I couldn't feel my fingers for the cold but I loved that job and was never as happy as I was when I was working with the horses. I use to run round the field with the horses it was a wonderful feeling and it kept me warm.

Re: Still Snowing here
I think the schools close so easily now because of the OTT Health & Safety as well.
I don't mind though - I appreciate the day off Sixth Form

Re: Still Snowing here
Apparently there's hell on at a school near my Mam's because a school told the y7, 8 and 9 kids to stay at home, but the y10 and 11s had to go in!
Re: Still Snowing here
Why would they do that?
The only thing I can think is that y10's/11's can't afford to miss as much school as the younger kids - but I don't think they'd be sending the younger kids home as a kind gesture. Normally it's because it's dangerous or there's not enough staff, and then they'd all go home?
Weird.

Re: Still Snowing here
I assume they had enough teachers to cover some of the school, so I imagine they made the decision that the y10s and 11s needed to be there more.
It happened to me once - the heating broke down in the entire school, apart from the science block. The y10 and 11 kids had their classes in the science block, everyone else went home. We were furious!

Re: Still Snowing here
It's been like that here the past two days also. Luckily we are having a snow-free day today Friday was crazy, it was snowing with thick heavy flakes all day and late into the night. We've had about 20cm

Re: Still Snowing here
It's snow free here today - I was worried cos i had to take Charlie and daisy to johns this morning for dentals and I was worried about getting stranded.
Even better news is that it is now raining and washing the last of it away. I'm so glad so he buns have hated it!

Re: Still Snowing here
Rosie and BJ have loved the snow - they were binkying around in it. Hollie and Herbie have enjoyed it too and have been busy digging. I wouldn't let Gabe and Spring out in it near their wendy house as Chris had been out and put grit in front of it.
If I was younger I probably would have driven yesterday but as the years have gone by I have become more cautious. Besides which the last time it snowed Chris managed to slide off the road at the bottom of our hill into the railings. He didn't want a repeat performance from me!
