RIP Teasel and Sweep
You both died over a week ago now, but it's taken me a lot to come wish you off to the bridge.
You were both under 3 months old, and had been with us under a month when you passed away so suddenly.
It was meant to go right this time... I was hoping to wait for the right rescue pair to come along, but my mum spotted you in PaH, and when the store told us "how to care for you properly" by only holding you on your back, and had little to none advice on jabs and panacur or even on looking after an angora rabbit - we decided we couldn't just let you wait there...
So you came home with us - and you seemed very happy! My little sister especially loved you both, and spent most of her days playing with you; she was very proud on how quickly you both learnt to obey commands and perform tricks, like standing up for a treat and going to bed when she asked! I left you both to go back to University - there would be no extra stress on you both, even if it meant leaving you with my rabbit-savvy family while I studied.
You were kept indoors in the warmth, with a new cage, room, toys, toys, food etc, to avoid any seemingly silly fears that you may come into anything that could've caused any illness.
But 3 weeks in, poor little Sweep had a fit in the middle of the night. Emily stayed up through the night to take care of both of you, although it was too late to help Sweep.
Teasel gave up the next day. She refused to eat or move, and having seen these symptoms before in Simba and Remlit last year, the hard decision was made to not take her to the vets - worried that this would just cause extra stress to her, rather than any help.
She too passed away later that evening.
No one has any idea what caused this, or whether it can be related to the rabbit losses last year.
But we really miss you both, and hope we made your short lives as happy as possible. And that we made the right decision in bringing you home...
I'm so sorry we couldn't have done any more to help you.
