Myrtle's trip to the vet
Yesterday Myrtle went to the vet, she has not been eating caecotrophs for over a week now. The vet gave a thorough check and has given her some Fibreplex to get the gut back to normal.
Apart from the caecotrophs being squished into the carpet, Myrtle is her usual self!

Sending lots of vibes to Myrtle
I'm wondering the same thing as Katie. Do they know why this has happened?

Re: Myrtle's trip to the vet
Just another thought, when we had the same problem with Thumper, we gave her pro-c (we got it from P@H) and it was an absolute god send. She detested the Fibreplex and would spit most of it out.
It made such a difference to her.
I don't want to go against your vets advice, and I'm not sure if you can do both at the same time... I can't remember...
Most unhelpful post ever but wanted to mention because it worked wonders for Thumper.

Re: Myrtle's trip to the vet
thanks for all the vibes , Myrtle seems to be getting better...there is still uneaten caecotrophs but not as many as before. I don't know if it is the fibreplex or the reduction in pellets and lack of veg though.
I think it could be a change in hay. We have been getting some local hay from a farm and all the buns love it and eat so much of it, Myrtle eats much more of that hay than I have ever seen her eat. We couldn't get to the farm because of the snow so we bought some hay from the local pet food shop - its stuff she has had before but I dont think she likes it as much. Her poo is much darker on it.
She has also been throwing her hay box around and spreading the hay everywhere. Although this isn't unusual as a one off maybe every couple of weeks, she has been doing it every morning and afternoon.
I will be getting more of the hay from the farm this weekend!
We did try pro c but it didn't really do much to stop the caecotrophs and Myrtle was suspicious of it so didn't drink much water - after initial suspicion about the fibreplex, she now loves it! Pro c works well for the Patch and Daisy though.
There isn't a lot of advice on the internet about this sort of thing, mainly things like "ensure the rabbit has enough space to move" which seems like it should be the case all the time anyway!

Re: Myrtle's trip to the vet
I'm glad she is getting better
I think excess / uneaten caecotrophs are often linked to a diet too rich in nutrients - rabbits are designed to eat a very nutrient-poor diet. So perhaps if she was eating less hay, the overall average nutrient content of her diet went up for a while.
Or I might be talking rubbish

Is she taking the fibreplex well?
It could be too many pellets, they can be quite rich so it's a good idea reducing them like you have xx
