Happy Gotcha Day Dougal, Pic Heavy
Dear Dougal
I can’t believe that it is a whole year since you came to live with me and Florence. I hope that you have enjoyed your first year here with us, and that you are happy and content with your new life.
I first met you a couple of weeks before this, at the rescue where I was being shown all the boy bunnies who could be bonded with Florence. I had seen you on their website and was disappointed that you had already been reserved, but it had actually fallen through. As we approached your run you periscoped up to say hello, the exact same thing Florence had done when I first met her. I think at that point I knew you would be the one I’d be taking home, you’d chosen me the same way Florence had.
We had the longest cuddle I have ever had from a rabbit that day, and I put you as my first choice as a friend for Florence. You were quiet, friendly, and huggy, the same as you are now. When I’m feeling rubbish a “Dougal cuddle” always makes me feel better.
When I took Florence to the rescue only five days later I was disappointed you weren’t inside already so I could say hello again. Then there was a slight worry from the rescue because Florence wasn’t the dwarf lop they’d been expecting, it turned out she was a mini lop. They were worried you would be too “amorous” for her but they agreed to still give it a go. We needn’t have worried. You were put together the following day and it was love at first sight for both of you, you were never separated again. I’ve spoken with the rescue since, and they think the reason you two work so well is because Florence was slightly intimidated by this huge bunny and just bowed down to you. It took a very special bunny cope with Florence.
When I came to pick you both up the rescue told me how you’d calmed Florence down, but how you were a very lazy boy. Florence groomed you but you wouldn’t do it back and you refused to come out of the cage by yourself, you had to be lifted. This hasn’t changed!! When you first came home it was obvious that you had never had the space and freedom that Florence took for granted. You looked terrified by space, and for the first few days I had to tempt you out into the pen with treats. This does still continue, and you now beg visitors for treats, but everyone loves you.
The first few days I did call you by your “rescue” name a bit, Chequers, just for a bit of continuity. But you were Dougal from the start. It suited you, and the rescue agrees with this. Although you’re more Dougal from Father Ted than any other Dougal!! You moulted so much those first few weeks, I was constantly covered in white fur. Florence was besotted by you, and barely left you alone. You were confused when she left the pen and you couldn’t get to her. We could not get you to leave the pen though, and even now you rarely do. I can’t work out if it’s because you’re too lazy too, or because you’re scared of losing us. When you do come out you enjoy yourself, but it doesn’t happen often.
Dougal I have so many stories from your first year here. The day you were thumping because you’d gone under the armchair and couldn’t work out how to get out. The day you opened the pen door and came into my bedroom because breakfast was late. How when we moved to our new flat you constantly demanded strokes because you were getting no attention, and how whenever I cry you come running to where I am and look at me as if to say “it’s ok mummy, I’m here”. When we moved I told you that you were now the man of the household, and you take your duties very seriously.
Dougal you are the laziest, most relaxed, cuddliest, greediest, treat tart bunny I have ever owned, and I would not change you for the world. Thank you for choosing us to live with, I hope you are happy with your life now.
At bonding, you made Florence look soooooo teeny!
The day you moved in, you looked so scared
But you soon settled
And you trashed Joeybunsmums kitchen
Then we moved, and you're now man of the house, and happy to take your role seriously by laying down, eating and making a mess

I had to go and check which was the ninth! It was on a thread on here, "day in the life of Dougal" or something, it was the week he moved in and he slept all day!! I should've known then what he was like
