Ings hay Empty Ings hay

Post by Sue_pawz Thu Jan 31, 2013 1:23 pm

Hi guys,

A friend of mine got a new batch of ings hay the other day, and she noticed it was quite different to previous batches she'd had - not as green, generally not as nice. Anyway, she gave it to her bunnies, and since eating it, one of her rabbits has got a blockage and has been in the vets over night. If they can get him to poop, hopefully Rupert can come home today. Both my friend and the vet think it is to do with the hay.

I just want to give a heads up in case it was to do with the hay being different.

Fingers crossed Rupes can get home to his wife today, she's very nervous due to abuse in her first home, and she's frantic without him (they wouldn't let her stay with him).

Oh crud, my two are currently working their way through 4.5kgs of it and its our first lot, so I've no idea what it's "normally" like Hmmm

They've been eating it since the 16th though so I'd imagine its fine.

I'm sure it's fine - this was a new batch that they'd only just started on.

My friend is feeling bad for giving it to them - she thought long and hard about it as she didn't think it looked too bad.

tell your friend not to feel bad it's so easy to not notice it's off as it can be very difficult to tell,
sometimes it's not till you get in the middle ish you notice any damp etc...

I would email hay for pets and let them know. I have had some last week and it was fine, as was the timothy & rye.

They are sending her a fresh bag out - they were very helpful Smile

I was just going to write the same I can't see it being the hay causing the blockage.

Hay at the moment isn't great due to the bad Summer we have had and it all depends when it was cut.

I know dust free hay have imported some from France because they are concerned about the quality of their own hay.
