Taffy 07/03/2011 - 29/03/2013
I’ve never been able to write a memorial straight away for anybun else we have lost, but you are very special Taffy, and I feel I need to pay tribute to you now.
You were born on 7th March 2011, one of five kits who were Jack and Mrs D’s second litter. As you grew, you were always the smallest of your siblings but even as a weeny kit you were always the friendliest one and the five of you seemed healthy and well, into everything and no end of mischief.
Here you are at about 4 weeks, asleep in the food bowl :
Here’s your Dad making you presentable for the camera:
That’s you on the right, sleeping in the sun with your littermates and big brother Smudge babysitting:
You were a very fluffy and elegant teenager:
After neuters, we bonded you all back into a big group and Hudad built you a great big shed. It soon became apparent that you younger boys were being bullied – we sent Dougal to live with Rosie and picked Reggie to be your companion, and got you a hutch and pen of your own in the corner of the garden. Last summer we invested in new hutches for you all, and you had a lovely 6’ x 2’ x 2’ hutch of your own, and your very own snakey down into a run.
Your new hutch (before you both starting eating it ):
You exploring - I seem to remember I had to help you get back down from here :
Your fabulous impression of Sparky :
You had a little flare-up of pasteurella in late 2011 which we knocked back with anti-biotics and again after your vaccine last autumn, which again we got under control fairly easily. You were always a lean little guy without an extra ounce on you, but you seemed able to take on anything that came your way if we gave you a little extra support.
It was quite a shock when I came out with your breakfast on Friday 1st February and you found you in quite a bad way – we really thought you might not be coming home from the vets. But as usual, our wonderful vet worked miracles and we got you stable – the rest of it you did for yourself. You were so brave and so strong, fighting off the EC, determined to keep your strength up and get better. We had our bad days, when I had to force you to eat and drink and you seemed miserable, but the next day you would always be ears-up alert and bright as a button again. You soon let me know what you wanted to eat by wolfing it down, and what you didn’t want to eat by flinging your food bowls across the pen
You were so incredibly patient, it could not have been nice for you having to have your bottom cleaned in the early days and being syringe fed, but you very rarely protested and you made it so much easier on us. You didn’t like your Panacur but you came to love your Metaclopramide and you’d hop over to us when you heard the top being taken off the bottle. You turned into quite the snuggle bun too, and would happily settle down in my arms, wrapped in a blankie, and sleep contentedly. You insisted on a night-night nose-rub and would settle down, purring your teeth, tucked up on your hottie for the night.
You seemed to be having a couple of your quieter days this week. You were eating a little less but not little enough to alarm me and you were happy enough to come out of your pen and have a hop around. I thought you might just be adapting to your reduced vision, something we had tried to help by making some adaptions to your living quarters.
Your Hudad got up this morning and said good morning to you – you were sitting in your usual corner, by one of your (many) food bowls. He went to get you some veg and by the time he came back up, you were flat out on your side in the middle of the pen. As soon as I saw you, I knew you were leaving us. I wrapped you in a blankie and we both had a cuddle and told you it was okay to go, and you slipped away ever so quietly. You even made that easy on us (as easy as it could be anyway).
You were a handsome, sweet, loving little guy and we’ll miss you terribly.
Binky free sweetheart, your Mummy and sisters will be very pleased to see you.

What a beautiful Tribute.
What a special boy you were Taffy. We will all miss you terribly.
It's so unfair how the Angels steal the most special for themselves.
Binky free and well at the bridge little guy, you are in good company there.

I had tears in my eyes reading that and looking at the pics
Taffy, you were a gorgeous boy and you fought so, so hard. You did your family proud and I know their hearts are breaking.
