Danny- The Mysterious Coughing Wabbit........ Empty Danny- The Mysterious Coughing Wabbit........

Danny has been at the Vets today having tests for what I can only descibe as a 'gagging cough'
It all started about 3 weeks ago with what appeared to be a mild case of Snuffles. A few sneezes and a bit of snot ( sorry! ) from one nostril but perfectly 'well within himself'. After trying 2 different antibiotics, an anti-inflammatory and an antihistimine the problem has persisted except that there is now no nasal discharge at all.

Danny had a GA today to enable the Vet to have a good look around his mouth and down his throat/up his nose.
He also had several Xrays. Everything was perfectly normal including his heart and lungs....... scratch
The only part the Vet could not see was the area just behind his epiglotis, the only way to see that area would be to go in via a hole in the side of his neck !! Shocked
Obviously we dont want to be doing that at this stage as Danny is perfectly 'well' and there is no evidence of abnormalities in that area on the digital Xrays. So now its a case of 'wait and see'........... Hmmm

Anyone had a Bunny with a cough ?

Our OB had a bad cough/retch and was sneezing, he was treated for snuffles as a precaution, although there was no nasal discharge at all. His lungs sounded clear, all the rattling seemed to come from his sinus area. We were going to have a conscious xray done of his skull and chest area but the vet was reluctant to sedate him (he had strangely become a very nervous bun) and we didn't want to risk a GA. We were waiting for a referral to a specialist but it came too late, OB died in my arms Crying or Very sad .

We asked for a pm to be done and the vet found his left lung was perfectly healthy but his right one was twice the size it should have been and had large pockets of infection which couldn't have been cleared with any antibiotics. His sinus area was clear. The only indcation of 'infection' was a smell on OB's breath when he coughed/sneezed/sighed.

Deedee, a dental bun, coughs sometimes when she eats and drinks.

Mojo coughs/retches when he eats but he's the Homer Simpson of the bunny world and eats like a pig, in fact I think he inhales his food Rolling Eyes

There now, that didn't help at all did it Laughing

Charlie had snuffles as a baby but other than that no cough experience here I'm afraid.

I hope Danny stops coughing soon but am glad he doesn't feel unwell.
