They are rebelling against the vinegar!
I can only assume that the vinegar is the problem. Since I brought T&T back in (6 hours ago ) after cleaning their cage with vinegar, they have spent the whole time hiding under the cat tree at the opposite end of the room to their cage They came out of the cat tree briefly for their noms, which I took near to them, and then they've gone back under there.
To top it off, they peed in the corner too
I washed the vinegar off as well as I could, but it does kind of reek.

I don't blame them - I hate the smell of vinegar. Sorry - have no useful suggestions apart from wiping everything over again.

Well, they have emerged from the cat tree, but are still giving their cage a wide berth
I have warned them that the consequences of inappropriate peeing are a vinegar-scented cage for a while!

Did you apply the vinegar neat? The smell might be just too much then.
I know people use 50/50 vinegar/water solutions for cage cleaning. I'm not sure it would be as effective as neat vinegar, but it might help the stench a bit.

They seem to have come to terms with it now, after a 6 hour protest!

After the vinegar dries go over it with water with baking soda in it. it kills the odor.

I always give Nibblers litter tray a clean with vinegar, then clean it again with antibacterial cage cleaner afterwards and he doesn't seem to mind!
