Ikea bag dispenser, warning!!

This morning when I came down to check on the guinea pigs, my poor Pebbles had her head stuck in one of the holes from the Ikea bag dispensers which we used as hay racks.

I immediately picked her up and rushed to sit down so I could try and get her head out, it was a real struggle and didn't come out easily! With a lot of patience and gentleness it finally came out. Apart from a piggie who was a little bit spooked she is luckily fine. I don't have a clue how long she was there for, so I syringe fed her some banana to ensure she's eating and she went to nibble on some hay afterwards.

Here is a photo of the Ikea bag dispenser (which i've removed from all hutches) which I advise you not to purchase unless it's for bunnies (small bunnies it's a big no no though as the same thing could happen) and also a photo of Pebbles taken a few minutes ago. As you can see she's okay which I am so thankful for !!

Does it sound as if she has something stuck in her sinuses? If so this is what you need to do - I know it sounds brutal but it works. Hold her firmly with two hands so her head is downwards and her bum is upwards. She will wiggle a bit and hopefully dislodge any fluid that has gone down the wrong way.

I'm not quite sure what something stuck in her sinuses would sound like.. Hmm..

It sounds like it's coming through her nose.

What could she possibly have stuck in there?

I don't want to do what you suggested if it's not needed, we don't need anymore injuries! Haha  

Bearing in mind that pigs don't have any form of reflux action they can't vomit anything up that has got stuck. And they don't really cough so they have no way of getting anything out of their lungs either. It could be a bit of hay dust or excess saliva if the neck was restricted when trapped. Does Pebbles have any lung clicking? and easy way to find out is to simply hold her chest to your ear. Is she bloated at all? Is she indoors? if not please bring her in to ensure she is warm and in the dry. It is probably worth getting her checked out at the vets in the morning.

I just tried holding her upside down and it didn't work. I can't hear a clicking sound but theres definitely a sound coming from her chest. She's in the shed which is warm and dry - I have no indoor cages!

Thanks for the warning hun, I am so glad you managed to get it out and I hope her liitle chest gets better quickly.  I can imagine the horror you felt when you discovered it.  She is beautiful by the way, that lovely little round muzzle.  Please keep us updated.
