Rory Senior
It is my sad duty to inform you that, just after 5:30 PM Central Standard Time on Saturday, January 25th, 2014, our beloved Rory passed over the Rainbow Bridge. He is now playing with his friends from this forum, plus his "brother," Thumper and his "sister," Lady, among others. I was able to be with him at the last, letting him know how much Holly and I loved him, thanking him for sharing his life with us and assuring him that he would be safe and happy with his family that had preceded him.
There is a huge hole in both Holly's and my hearts this evening. We have the memories and the photographs, but our home and hearts are empty. I was able to let Holly say her good-byes to Rory, and while we know that rabbits are fragile creatures that could never outlive us, when they depart the pain is just as severe.
I have to commend the veterinarian that tried so valiantly to save Rory. Her name is Adrienne Hale, DVM, and she is a doctor of emergency medicine at Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists, a 24 hour Emergency Hospital that welcomes rabbits. Adrienne offer us options in the treatment of Rory, was sensitive to our needs and, when she knew he was slipping away, brought me back to allow me to be with him at the last. She then gave me time to be alone with Rory so I could say my final good-byes. She was so apologetic for not being able to do more, even though she had explained in detail the difficulties of tending to such animals as rabbits.
Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists also went above and beyond, in my opinion, in their treatment of me after Rory's passing. They waived all but the basic exam fee and offered a range of possibilities on what to do with Rory's body. They also have allowed us time to think about it so we didn't have to make a snap decision while in such an emotional state. they also offered to take a final paw impression and make a clay remembrance of Rory. I know that he vast majority of the members of this forum will never need the services of the Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists or of Dr. Adrienne Hale, but I wanted to go on record as saying they gave Rory the most dedicated and compassionate care I have ever received from a veterinarian.
Rory was with us for just over 14 and a half months. He filled us with a lifetime of joy in those short months. We will miss him dearly.
Rest in peace, our dear Rory.

Re: Rory Senior
I'm so very sorry. I just can't take in such terrible news.
Fate can be so cruel but to have Rory taken from you now is heartbreaking.
Good at least to read you were in the hands of such a good and compassionate vet, very much needed in such sudden and tragic circumstances.
My thoughts are very much with you and Holly at this time.

Re: Rory Senior
Oh Holly and Ed I just don't know what to say apart from I hoped and prayed that this wasn't the news we would hear. Holly told me last night about Rory's passing and I just sobbed as it just doesn't seem fair
I know he was cared for and cherished and that what time he had with you was filled with love.
Mike and I are so deeply sorry Ed and Holly and are thinking about you both and sending our love and
As for you Rory binky free forever little one all well again at the Bridge you were loved xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I'm Still Here.
Please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, I'm everyplace!

Re: Rory Senior
I am so utterly devastated to hear this news, and I know you two will feel a thousand times worse and my heart is breaking for you
What an utterly tragic, unfair, horrible thing to happen with all that you have to deal with in the rest of your lives. It is so unfair. Please God, will you give Ed and Holly a break?
I'm glad that you had such fantastic support from the vets, what lovely human beings they must be and I have no doubt they helped make an incredibly traumatic time that little bit easier on you.
Oh, Rory, my little American penpal. We had lots in common from the start, didn't we Angelica? with your fluffy mane and your pretty markings (we won't mention the trauma the hoomins put us through with the gender confusion issue. Oh, sorry, I just did). Thankyou for coming into Ed and Holly's lives just when they needed you, I have no doubt you battled as hard as you could to stay with them now but it wasn't to be. I'm so glad you found such a great vet to try to help you, this would have been so much harder if your hoomins had been left feeling they could have done more for you, but I really don't think they could have done a thing to change this awful outcome.
Give my love to Thumper, I miss him still. And I never met Lady but I just know that being a Senior bun she'll be wonderful. They'll look after you and one day I will see you there. Love you, Rory Binky free

oH Holly and Ed I am so so sorry, I have just been crying reading about this- what a shock. I had a soft spot for Rory and know how much you loved him too, I know you must be deeply hurt and sad.
Sorry you have to go through this pain.

I'm so sorry to read about Rory's passing - I've not been on HH in a little while so this was a great shock to learn about.
No passing is ever easy but I'm so glad you had such a wonderful, caring vet who did everything possible, respected your grief and need to say goodbye and cared as deeply for you and your feelings as for giving the best care to Rory at the end....a truly great vet.
Take good care xx
