Vibes for Coffee please :-((
Hi folks,
I'm very upset, when I came into the warren to feed lunch and take them out I found Coffee subdued sitting in the corner not greeting me at all!
So got Bertie and Bubbles out first and went back to get him. When I picked him up he felt quite floppy and I saw he was bleeding from his mouth, his tounge hang out darkly discoloured and very swollen.
Rushed him to the vet straight away.
He is having surgery whilst I write this post.
Vet opinion is that he got a cut his tounge some how on a sharp object. A bite seems unlikely with his incisors missing.
It looks like it has happened this morning and parts of the tounge seem necrotic and may have to be removed
When back home I checked the cage and run. The only thing I found as a possible cause is the holder for the water bottle.
Please hoppers send vibes for that lovely fella and me. Thanks

Mega vibes and prayers for the gorgeous Coffee! They do know how to worry us don't they. Tongues regenerate quite readily. I had a quarter size piece excised from mine and it regenerated in several months.
I know you are concerned about finding what caused the injury. Sending vibes for you to find that readily and remedy the situation.

Tons of vibes for poor Coffee!! How awful, I hope they dont have to move parts of his tongue, and whatever happens, he makes a speedy recovery.

Re: Vibes for Coffee please :-((
Update from this evening
Sucessful surgery they have stitched his tounge all around and he looks quite ridiculous as it is poking out of his mouth.
It was all well blood suplied and they had no need to remove any parts -god thanks!
He had a lot of drugs, painrelief, gut stimulant and antibiotic and we will go for a check up tomorrow morning.
Will need encouragement to eat as tounge is very swollen, and he needs syringe feed. But as good as he is he took this straight from me and had half a syringe of food and one of water already. Tried to give him the food from a spoon and he had a few licks of that too. Now waiting for poo actions and off for another feeding round!
Thanks for all vibes and well wishes.

Sounds like they did a great job on his tongue! I'm so glad he is back home with you. I know he'll have the best of care with you taking care of him. It's wonderful that he is taking his food from the syringe so readily. Sending mega vibes for a total and quick recovery. Hugs for you too!

Re: Vibes for Coffee please :-((
Hi lovely folks!
Sorry for not responding earlier but have been rather busy with the boy.
He is not doing so grant today.
I had to go to work yesterday and had an check appointment at the vet for11am. I left him at the surgery and picked him up after work.
Maybe this wasn't wise but I couldn't cancel the shift. Managed to cancel everything from today until Tuesday when he is due for a check again.
It looks like the tip of his tounge is getting black, the rest is well perfumed and looks nicely pink.
He is on metacam and baytril and because he was not happy with the syringe feeding I have decided to give him the baytril as injections. He freaks each time when anything and especially the syringe touches his mouth. So I thought I don't want to make it worse, if this is possible, by giving hom the baytril oral and stress him out even more.
He is getting frustrated because he wants to pick the food up and can't manage when it's on the floor or in a bowl. If I give it from a spoon to him he can take small amounts. I wonder whether it has to do with the angle and which movements he can make with his tounge.
He is pooing but they are smaller than usual and earlier on he got so stressed the he weed on me and then had a very soft poo in the litter tray.
All vibes welcome!

Yes, you are right I even told him this earlier. Just to find a collage or university that teaches those language skills I haven't found yet
He goes frantic and arches him self back and it looks most horrible. If someone would see it and not know the details they would do me for cruelty and I'm surely not. I love the boy dearly and if he continues to react this way I consider to see the vet tomorrow. I can't leave him without food and fluid and feel guilty for doing this, sorry I don't moan usually but this brings me to tears.
Any suggestions hoppers???

Re: Vibes for Coffee please :-((
Another update!
Good:
He is eating-small amount of veg grated and pellets moistened with warm water, I mixed the selective with some oxbow as it has more fibre and prebiotic.
Hence I avoid to syringe feed him and he only has to take the metacam once a day.
He is pooing although they are tiny ones and small amounts.
Not so good:
He has very soft ceotophobes and finds it difficult to keep bottom clean and is fighting me when I want to assist.
He doesn't seem to drink much!
Thought I give him a little time with Bubbles and he went for her big style. I guess he is aggressive because he feels poorly but this may mean that the bonding attempts are back to scratch. I will wait until he is better and back to normal and re introduce than. Bubbles is shell shocked, bless her!
Thanks for all the vibes sent and to Tuckerbunnies for the brilliant advice.

Re: Vibes for Coffee please :-((
Oh gosh, poor Coffee and poor you
He probably ought to be on the metacam twice a day - what dose is he getting and is it the dog one? Many vets don't prescribe enough pain relief for rabbits.
He is probably not drinking much because his food is being moistened, so he is getting adequate hydration from that.
Poos being off is probably because of low fibre intake and perhaps a bit of stress / discomfort. I'm not sure what form fibreplex is - is it a paste, anyone? I wonder if that is worth trying to get his fibre intake up.
I would keep him quiet and away from the other buns until he is feeling a lot better.
Lots of vibes for Coffee and some for you.
