Vibes for Bertie please
Bertie is booked in with our preferred Vet in the morning.
Why?
I groomed him yesterday and thought he looks thinner there is hardly any meat covering shoulder blades and top of the spine, mhmmm. Went and got the scale out.
He weighs 2.9 kg from 3.5 kg back in may when he was last on the scales during a check.
At this time they found a small dental spur but decided not to do anything but certainly observe.
He is eating his fresh stuff but thpellets go down slower.
I have just given him a dose of metacam and a little top up of recovery food and plan to do the same this evening.
Just hope it is a dental issue and nothing else. He is getting on a bit 5 years old now and has a gotcha day to look forward next week. I already given some of the presents I build them a new hide box and some new toys too.
Thanks

The boy was seen this morning. Their scales shown a little less drastic weight loss but still 400 g since may. Good and thorough check revealed.... Not much. Yes a tiny spur but the bite is fine, no abscess, good muscle mass, no lumps or bumps, temperature fine, heart good, breathing nil to report.
Vet doesn't think it is a dental issue. Stated to me if I had seen this bunny as a check or vaccination he would have all clear from me. However you know your animals best and yes his weight loss is for real.
We discussed all options but since there is no indication what so ever we agreed to monitor him closely and come back in four weeks for a check up. Till then the boy will have a 10% increase in food portions and some more treats in the hope he puts some weight on or at least will not loose any more. I'm gonna weigh him weekly so he can be booked in earlier if need be.
Thanks for all the vibes and if you can manage some put weight on ones we will be glad to receive them.

Re: Vibes for Bertie please
Update and more questions!?!
The bot needs lots of encouragement to eat!
So on feeding times I'm sticking around and this afternoon I observed something truly bizarre and I'm not sure whether I need to phone and tell the vet tomorrow!
He was having his bowl of fresh after his portion of pellets thet he had hardly touched.
Started off ok and was munching on watercress, apple, pepper, fennel and blueberries( which he usually adores). Suddenly he stopped munching and opened his mouth in a manner like someone would do when regurgitating or getting ready for a vomit. Split seconds later resumed munching but not in speed and amounts usual for him.
I thought rabbits can't do this? I will certainly be with him on feeding times and canceled an event for the weekend. Do I need to phone the vet? Also I found two big piles of soft poo, not ceotophobes but soft pellets in the warren. The amount was massive. Have given him some fibra first pellets as they contain alfalfa. Now I'm utterly puzzled. Help and advise please

You're right, they can't vomit.
I'm afraid I'm still thinking his teeth are bothering him...
The tiniest spur can be enough to upset them

Re: Vibes for Bertie please
I agree with Thumper2001 - they can't vomit so it could well be his teeth, even if the spur is tiny. The other thing is that maybe he took a bit too much in, too quickly at once and gave himself a bit of a fright? I do think it's more likely the spur though...
Please let us know what the vet says and how he does over the weekend. Sending lots of vibes to you both. Bunny worries are rubbish!

Re: Vibes for Bertie please
Thanks folks,
I had planed to go away for the bank holiday weekend to see an old friend as it is her birthday and her daughter is over for a visit too. I havent seen Jessica for many years.
However as the boy is not well I have canceled and my friends completely understands as she is a animal lover too. I would only have worried whilst away and it is easier for me to assess things rather than leaving it to OH and neighbour.
Bertie is doing alright a little bit of soft poo, so did Bubbles this morning and required a bum clean of which she didn't approve, not even be tempted to reconciliation by a fenugreek crunch
They had lots of greens over the last few days and in attempt to get the boy to have more intake it might have just turned it up to much.
Plus a vet visit needs to be digested. I have spoken to them this morning. Will observe over the weekend whether there is another funny episode. If so we will go to be seen on Tuesday if not we will just carry on.
I have changed a few things. Vernon is not allowed to go upstairs at present as he will pee and poo in front of the warrens door and I wonder whether Bertie picks up the smell and Adrenaline kicks in....
OH suggested to get a baby gate for the stair case but Vernon has jumped the puppy den in the past easily so I don't think a baby gate would keep him downstairs.
I just play around, observe, reassess, try more and so on.
Yes I'm worried a bit but this can't be changed. It is not knowing what's wrong and hence unable to rectify it. Being human doesn't help either.

Re: Vibes for Bertie please
Your last sentence made me laugh
Re the sticky poo, you could try some Pro-C or fibreplex
It's a shame you had to cancel your weekend away. Could they perhaps visit you instead?

With two big dogs I doubt it will be welcomed by the bunnies nor by the cats. I will visit her later when all has calmed here.

Re: Vibes for Bertie please
Sorry you had to cancel your trip Hun. Buns do like to wait til we have plans before becoming ill. I agree that I think this is the spur. Daisy and Charlie stop eating at even the smallest spur and I know that they often can't be fully seem without a ga.
Hope you are both ok.

Bertie had seen the vet update 08.09
Another update in brief.
He is still loosing weight and leaves big amounts of Caecotrophs lying around. Was booked to see vet again in two weeks. Now brought forward to Monday.
He is eating lots and seems happy in himself. Likely to need bloods for Liver and Kidney function and a GA to have a look at his teeth.
Dear Hoppers we need teeth vibes please!
We went this morning and Bob checked his teeth again, he had only gained 20 gram over the last few weeks.
Discussed issues with pellet food and finding Caecotrophs.
Outcome:
Wait with the food change until teeth are sorted.
Teeth were more noisy then at last visit. Others than that he remains Mr Handsome and Vet is happy with him. As he gained a little weight it is unlikely to be liver or kidney disease.
They had enough time so he stayed with Bubbles to look after him and had his dental treatment done. The spur wasn't very big but bleed quite a lot.
I'm now sitting with a cup of tea in the warren trying to encourage him to eat and drink which he does not agree with at present. He is still sleepy and very unsteady on his legs. It's such a heart wrenching picture because he wobbles about and looks so helpless. I canceled work for today as I did not want to leave him for six hours especially when not taking food or water. I will wait until 6isch. Attempts of giving fluid and recovery food via syringe failed as he is pooling it in his cheeks and than drules it out.
Booked for check next week unless he needs to be seen earlier.
