Vibes for Bertie please - Page 2 Empty Update Bertie had dental treatment this morning

Post by c.bolduan Mon Sep 08, 2014 3:46 pm

c.bolduan wrote:Another update in brief.
He is still loosing weight and leaves big amounts of Caecotrophs lying around. Was booked to see vet again in two weeks. Now brought forward to Monday.
He is eating lots and seems happy in himself. Likely to need bloods for Liver and Kidney function and a GA to have a look at his teeth.

Dear Hoppers we need teeth vibes please!
We went this morning and Bob checked his teeth again, he had only gained 20 gram over the last few weeks.
Discussed issues with pellet food and finding Caecotrophs. Rolling Eyes
Outcome:
Wait with the food change until  teeth are sorted.
Teeth were more noisy then at last visit.  rabbit Others than that he remains Mr Handsome and Vet is happy with him. As he gained a little weight it is unlikely to be liver or kidney disease.
They had enough time so he stayed with Bubbles to look after him and had his dental treatment done. The spur wasn't very big but bleed quite a lot.
I'm now sitting with a cup of tea in the warren trying to encourage him to eat and drink which he does not agree with at present. He is still sleepy and very unsteady on his legs. It's such a heart wrenching picture because he wobbles about and looks so helpless. I canceled work for today as I did not want to leave him for six hours especially when not taking food or water. I will wait until 6isch. Attempts of giving fluid and recovery food via syringe failed as he is pooling it in his cheeks and than drules it out.
Booked for check next week unless he needs to be seen earlier.

I'm concerned why it bled? I've never heard of that before?

Vibes for Bertie please - Page 2 Empty Re: Vibes for Bertie please

Well, he has come around from the GA about an hour ago. Bless him all afternoon he sat in the warren room with his head on my feed not wanting me to go anywhere. Fair enough I stay put. Never mind I need a wee myself. He has managed some of the smalles pieces out of the treats jar and that gave him the impulse of a nibble of banana and , not usually, cooked potatoe, tiny piece only but he loves it so much I just wanted to kick start him eating.
Why it was bleeding I don't know. I checked his mouth for the best that I could and can't find bleeding or anything really. He has been nibbling on some tried plantain that I got and I will go back to sit with him now that I had a bite to eat myself.
The vet nurse said he wont need painkillers, but I don't think that is right and agreed with the vet before he was taken for the procedure that he can have metacam if I feel he needs it, and I quite frankly do.
It must be sore and I will give him a dose in a minute and if needed again in the morning. I got a good amount of stock here. Surely if he is in pain he won't eat. So,what?
Love this bunny so much, he is so gentl, and patient and still seems to love me after this. Bless him!

Hm, like Katie I am surprised that there was bleeding. This would only happen if the vet caught a gum or cheek whilst carrying out the procedure.

I would certainly give him some metacam and keep it up until you feel he is back to normal. Little Noo always took a while to recover from dentals.

I agree - he would probably really appreciate the Metacam as the little guy is likely to be in some discomfort Hugs

Sending lots of vibes to you both and I hope he continues to nibble xxx

Just to say thank you and an update on my precious boy.
It seems a made a full recovery after the dental treatment. No effects after the GA and now he is not producing as many C's as before or eating them which is great news because he may put a bit of weight on again.
Thanks for all the vibes and thought Hoppers! Thumbs Up Very Happy Hugs
