Jelly
Jelly was the kind of rabbit that was a one in a million. She wasn't often seen as the 'pretty one', or the 'cute one', next to the likes of Peanut Butter, Domino and Pebbles, I guess you could say she was plain. And she was grumpy too, especially if she didnt know you. To strangers, she wasn't anything special. But to me, she was a one in a million. Jelly was the kind of rabbit that would groom you, and then nip you in the same moment. But she was loving, spirited and to me she was so, so beautiful. I have never seen a rabbit with a glossier coat, she was stunning. And I made mistakes, it would be wrong of me to pretend otherwise for the sake of an unblemished tribute to my girl.
I didn't know how to take care of her, or Peanut Butter. Impulse purchases, and we learnt along the way.
It feels alien to me now to even connect that she's Domino's mother, the idea of it seems absurd. But I was naive. And I am so glad she never held it against me. After Domino and his siblings were grown up, I neutered her and bonded her with Peanut Butter. She adored him. When he was poorly she would bite me in order to keep me away from him. And when he died, she missed him so much. She bonded with Domino and Pebbles instantly, and I will always argue that she never forgot he was her son. She didn't take to Pebbles straight away, but when Domino had to leave them due to his illness, they became a close pair and when I think about it, Jelly spent more time with Pebbles than any other rabbit.
I've never known a rabbit like her, and I suspect I never will again. She was unique, full of spirit and character and I miss her immensely. I always will. She will forever be my 'beastie', my amazing rabbit that taught me everything I needed to know. I found out two weeks ago that all her problems were due to a mass in her kidney. She lost so much weight, going from 2.3kg to 1.6, perhaps even lower than than as I stopped weighing her in the last week.
I held her in my arms as I said goodbye, and I miss her so much.
I'm so very glad I got to have eight years with you Jelly, because I was lucky enough to have the time after correcting the mistakes that I made, to enjoy you. I will look after your baby Jelly, he's seven now but he's still your baby. And I'll look after your friend, you were chalk and cheese and took a long time in becoming girl pals, but I know you loved her, especially in this last year you were inseparable. I had to ignore that you weren't showing me many signs, you couldn't hold your bladder and you were so skinny, but you never stopped eating and you never showed me you were in pain. But I knew you were, I knew how stubborn you were and I wasn't going to watch you suffer any more. I love you, it's as simple as that. I always have, even if it took me too long to get it right with you.
I am going to miss you so much, and it hurts. But you had the most wonderful life with us, and I am lucky that I have so many wonderful photos of you that capture your spirit. Go and find your beloved Peanut Butter, he waited so long for you.

Re: Jelly
What a touching tribute to a beautiful and adorable Rabbit.
It is like with humans the true beauty lies inside sometimes so.
Don't judge a book by his cover they say.

Re: Jelly
Thanks guys. I am really missing her, I can't even think of her without tearing up. I can't quite get my head around the fact I'm not going to see her again, I miss her cheeky face, and I've been looking through so many old photos and its really shown me how poorly she was, and any doubts/guilts I had yesterday have gone. I kept thinking 'was it too soon' but then I see these photos and it's really hit home how much she was struggling.
Being at home all day every day meant I spent a lot of time with her, the rabbits are what pulled me up when I felt down, and I just miss her so much right now. It hurts my heart, it just aches when I think of her. I wish my mum wasn't on holiday right now

Re: Jelly
I just received her ashes home, she will be resting with him outside soon. He has a lovely flower pot and she will be placed with him. His ashes are still in the box which is buried in the pot, but Mums going to open it and place both pouches beside each other so they are truly together once again.

Re: Jelly
Jelly, I only knew you these last few years and you certainly didn't seem to be a rabbit who could have wanted for more from her life or her humum. I'm glad your humum got it right for you and I know that whatever mistakes she feels she made, she loved you from day one.

Re: Jelly
She had a kidney tumour, poor girl. I miss her very very much, but I am thankful of the many photos I have of her showing how amazing she really was. It still feels surreal to be honest, but I am getting there. xx
