to be honest i wasnt very happy, she asked if i would consider splitting them up into peanut and domino / jelly with pebbles, bcus of their feet, and i said 'but i will make their room soft, it wont do the girls any damage will it?
but she wanted me to split them. i have some cream but its not flamazine either.
i went to a Hopper evening today at a different vet and they nurses were ace, and thats jus the nurses not even the vets, so i am changing them to see them :D

Re: Poor Domino!
To be honest I agree with the Vet.
If there becomes an active pathogen in the sore hocks then the other Buns are very likely to develope problems too.
But I admit am not a fan of big groups of Buns in a domestic setting. All too often I hear of problems and my unqualified theory is that the dynamics of a large group of Pet Buns involves a certain amount of stress for everybun in order to maintain the heirarchy. There is just never going to be enough room in a domestic setting to equate to how a wild coloney of Buns behave.
But again I stress this is just my personal opinion and I know I am in the minority !!
I hope the cream the Vet has given helps. Did they get any pain relief too ?

Re: Poor Domino!
Awww bless them.
There was me thinking "What difference would splitting them up make?" but if it's pathogenic then I suppose there is a certain amount of logic to that.
Jane do you consider 4 a 'large group'? Maybe that is why my Domino suddenly turned mad for a day To be honest my lot seem to be fair independent of each other anyway but if they were in any smaller quarters I might well encounter problems.
I hope the drugs work SJ, and that PB and Dom's feet heal soon, it can't be fun

Re: Poor Domino!
a pathogen is a 'germ' for lack of a better word. A virus or a bacterium that causes disease.
A disease which is pathogenic means one caused by pathogens and hence I *think* is usually transmissible.

she didnt think it was contagious, she wanted me to bring peanut and domino inside, and confine them to a smaller area until they were healed. she didnt mention ti was bcus of the girls possibly getting it.
I wouldnt class mine as a large group though, just a four. and they are very relaxed and happy woth each other now :D

Re: Poor Domino!
As I said before my opinion on groups of Buns is just a personal one.
I am not implying people who keep Pet Buns in groups are wrong, its just that I would not do it.
I would not suggest splitting a bonded pair, but I agree with the Vet on splitting a foursome into two pairs to allow the sore hocked ones to heal.

Re: Poor Domino!
i can see the logic in that. except if i split them, and then they wont rebond into a four, or even worse i cant even get them in two groups. Jelly was aparantly nipping pebbles yesterday when i took the boys to the vet so i dont think they would be happy together.
I am pretty sure Domino and Peanut would be fine. but i dont think the girls would, and then i have the added possiblity, of stressed/stasis buns due to pining. bcus i would prob have to split the girls into singles.
arrrgh its very stressful lol! mum has got me a big bag of megazorb, and she has also given me lots of fleece blankets for their floor.

Re: Poor Domino!
i would try and do something without splitting them esp as you say if you do it won't be into the happiest pairs?

much better domino kicked up a right fuss today as his back right is reeeeally sore but they are healing, peanuts are SO much better. there so pale, and skin coloured as opposed to red and chapped.
dom's r still sore but ALOT better than what they were so hopefully they will keep getting better#!
