Today's The Day... Empty Today's The Day...

Post by The Snowman Wed Feb 25, 2015 9:42 am

..that Seb has "the op". Its his first visit to the new vets and the senior, most experienced vet is performing his op.  I didn't think I was overly worried or thinking about it too much, but last night I did not sleep well, I saw every hour on the bedside clock!

I left it until the very last moment to try and persuade Seb to enter the pet carrier, he did so without any fuss. However, when he discovered he was "locked in" he did not seem very pleased! My husband had to take him to the vets whilst I went on the school run.   Now its the long wait..  I need to keep busy today! Very Happy

I'm sure the vet will offer post op advice when Seb is collected, but having read the info on this site, its does recommend keeping an outdoor bunny inside to stay warm.   Do you all think I should be setting up an indoor pen for tonight. Does anyone think Seb would be better getting back to his usual environment outside??

Mine are all indoor bunnies. Speak to the vet and see what he/she thinks.
I would be inclined to keep him in , just be easier for you to keep an eye on and yes they want to be kept warm after Surgery.

When I had my boys neutered they went back outside straight away but it was in June so it was warmer and they had mutual body heat. I would be tempted to keep him indoors tonight but not on hay or straw as this may irritate his undercarriage. Vetbed, or towels or a sheet would be better with hay and favourite food at hand. I am sure the vet will advise though.

Fingers crossed for Seb. I'm sure he'll be fine Smile

When my first bun was spayed she lived outside and we were advised to keep her in for a night or two. We didn't let her get too, too warm though. We set her up in the kitchen with the heating off. Last thing you want is for him to get used to the warmth then freeze his butt off when you put him back out Thumbs Up

Thank You All x I haven't heard anything yet but if they haven't phoned by 2pm, I can give them a ring. Feeling impatient!! If they advise that he should stay in, that's no problem as we do have a suitable pet pen. Just want them to phone!!

The vet nurse just phoned to say all is well! I asked if we should keep him in overnight, and have been advised to keep him inside with soft bedding (papers, towel, sheets et) and they will be providing further care advice when we collect him. Little fella can be collected at 5.30pm! yay!

Seb is very subdued.. very much keeping himself to himself. So far no interest in food. He is just laying quietly on a soft blanket. He has the occasional sniff around, then returns to the blanket.

He should start to settle in the next few hours Hugs

He is lucky to have you guys to care for him post-op xxxx

Does he have a hidey? This might help him feel a bit more comfortable in his surroundings.

Sending some gentle nose rubs for him! And supportive hugs for you. Any form of hidey is a good idea. Did he have anything food/fluid whilst recovering at the vet?
Has he peed yet? Pood?

Just as I typed about him not eating, he has decided that some hay and a small piece of cabbage is a great idea. He is now enjoying more hay...phew! No sign of wee/poo yet, but he's now sitting in the litter tray! I am so glad he is indoors with us so we can constantly monitor him. He seem to be perking up a little now x
