Agh - slug danger.
Yuk, yuk, yuk. The catflap on Gabe and Spring's wendy house had become propped open after catching on a willow tunnel. So what was inside their wendy house - a bl**dy great big black slug first thing this morning.
I think I may have screamed as I ran back into the house. Chris had to come out and deal with it

Re: Agh - slug danger.
My garden is full ... I think its cos us bunny people arnt able to treat our gardens with anything!
They keep getting into the run but I can cope with picking them up on tissue !
Are you sure the buns arnt planting them to prevent you coming in the Wendy house to get them for panacur !

Re: Agh - slug danger.
Slugs carry lung worm and rabbits can get it. I always check all forage for slug slime, and I mean ALL, every blade of grass, every dandie leaf etc. etc. And I thoroughly wash everything as well. Won't risk my Henners.
As for slugs in general ... yuck! I hate the red ones most.

Re: Agh - slug danger.
A few suggestions to deal with slugs:
Place various trays, plates or such around the garden and fill with a little bit of beer.(don't put them into the bunny warrens! Hicks:albino:)
Protect pots and plants by placing kitchen foil aluminium around they hate it!
Need to ask a gardeners friend as she suggested they don't like certain herbs but can't remember which ones they were.
Of course that might not help sixer. I guess they know about your dislike and feel drawn to you.

Re: Agh - slug danger.
They also say sharp sand will keep slugs out. Personaly if I want to keep slugs off plants/flower beds etc. I enclose the area with plastic guttering and scatter salt in it. No slug will tackle salt (it melts them!) and they avoid it like the plague; plus, when it rains you have salt water in the guttering which is just as good.
On tubs and plant pots I use a liberal spread of vasaline in roughly a two inch wide strip all round the pot. They cannot cross that.
Living where I do in a wood I tend to get the odd slug indoors that comes in via an air-brick, or under the door, so when the slug season starts I scatter salt by all the air-bricks and across the door steps. There's a bonus to this; salt on a concrete doorstep cleans it brilliantly and saves scrubbing.

Re: Agh - slug danger.
All these tips are great because it is preserving what is yours without hurting the slugs. Pouring salt on them in abominable. I love Snails but haven't seen to many of those this year either.

Re: Agh - slug danger.
I don't put salt ON the sluggies ... that would be terrible. I just lay salt barriers that the slugs recognise and won't cross.
I remember when I fed a bunch of feral cats and put the food out under a breeze block shelter that slugs would swarm all over the food. Because of the lung worm risk I put out a salt barrier to cut the slugs off from the food dishes. One evening I watched a slug climb up the side of the shelter wall which was about an inch or so from the nearest dish around which I'd put salt. The slug knew the salt was there and reached over the gap to feed from the dish while still holding on to the breeze blocks. I watched and began to figure even slugs are intelligent.
