UPDATE: Henry at Emergency Vets!
It was so fast. About 11pm I posted about him watching for our spider friend, Baden, little knowing that at 1-30am I would be rushing him to the Emergency Vet.
It was around midnight when I glanced through into the dining room to see if Henry was still on watch. He had left his post and was in his litter tray. I could see Baden just under the dresser. I decided it was time for bed and switched off the computer. I went to get Henry his bedtime treat of dried plantain and nettle but when I offered it to him he turned away and then I saw how stiff and tensed up he was. And he was shivering. It didn't take a genius to see he was in considerable pain. I felt his tum but it didn't seem bloated or hard but he definitely didn't like me touching him.
I rang the Emergency vet at 12-15. It was Alex and after appologising for disturbing him I explain all Henry's symptoms. Because Henry was in his tray and his tum wasn't bloated or hard Alex suggested I leave him for about half an hour to see if he passed anything that would ease him. If after half an hour he was no better I should bring him in.
At 1am I rang a friend and they agreed to take us so I rang Alex again and at 1-30 we arrived at the vets.
Alex examined him and agreed he was in considerable pain in his gut and gave him a shot to ease it. I have had to leave my boy with Alex. He thinks if there's no improvement after an hour he may X-ray him to see if there's anything naughty inside, but he hopes it's only a bad tummy ache.
It all came on so fast, and I'm feeling a tad shell-shocked, and I'm worried and missing my goofy boy.

Re: UPDATE: Henry at Emergency Vets!
He's home but he's far from okay. He's not out of the woods yet.
He's on Cisapride 0.3ml twice a day (5 day supply) and Loxicom 0.7ml once a day if needed. If he isn't eating okay and improving by the morning (or if his condition worsens before that) he may need surgery but that is risky.
He as passed 11 good sized poops and nibbled a couple of bits of hay. I've syringed him a dose of Cisapride. Now he's sleeping. But he is far from being a happy rabbit.
It's fingers crossed!
Just got to be patient and keep him warm and quiet.

Re: UPDATE: Henry at Emergency Vets!
Yes, but the eating was very, VERY small amounts and there's been no poop in the last five hours. I've syringed CC and given metacam and his Cisapride. And he has a blanket over him and a hot water bottle beside him.
But since mid afternoon I've noticed he has started sneezing a bit. Not much at first but over this evening it's become more frequent ... I may be taking him back to emergency surgery yet ... I hope not, I'd like him to have a quiet night ... And I need a quiet night myself, I'm really frazzled.
We are in the sitting room with just a table light on and all is silent.... a long, long night ahead.

Re: UPDATE: Henry at Emergency Vets!
It's nearly 5am and I'm totally done in. I've managed to stay awake and keep Henry warm. He has drunk some water (with Protexin in), more than just a couple of mouthfuls, from an offered dish and though no hay and Burgess (or Fenugreeks) he has eaten a couple of mini shredded wheat, one with metacam on it.
I'm beginning to think that it's not just moulting and hair in his tummy alone that is causing this because he seems to want to eat hay but once he starts chewing it he grinds to a halt and sits with it sticking out of his mouth.... that seems to say "DENTAL" to me. And he seems to be stuffy in his nose, blowing (not quite sneezing) down maybe one nostril(?). His breathing, especially when stressed, like when I'm preparing to syringe feed him, sounds like his nose is blocked.... could that point to dental issues I wonder?
Maybe I'm at the point in sleep depravation where I'd swear the moon really is a lump of Cheddar! I'm here, typing this, in an attempt to stay awake; it was Monday night when I last saw my pit and closed my eyes for longer than a blink.

Re: UPDATE: Henry at Emergency Vets!
Oh goodness Dee, I hope that you have been able to grab some shut eye.
How is he doing.
Mine tend to get a bit of dribble under the chin and a very slight runny nose... not a blocked nose so much. It came on everso quickly too. Has he passed any more poo. is he taking his critical care ok? I find that if its teeth they will take the CC quite readily as they are hungry, they just cant eat.
I really hope he is ok

How is Henry this morning?
Have you had a rest?
Pesky teeth or snuffles come to mind and I'm not sure which would be less of evil.

Re: UPDATE: Henry at Emergency Vets!
No sleep. Stayed to keep him company and keep him warm with a hottie. I was tempting him with all manner of goodies. He will eat a little soft hay, just a few stalks, and I got some metacam into him on a mini shredded wheat. He hates being syringed but I got about half a giant syringe full down him ... the rest is on the towel and my t-shirt!
His nose isn't runny in the slightest nor is his eye running (remember he has one eye that spills over once in a while, never drastic though and only wet for a couple of hours, more unsightly on his handsome face than anything).
I was getting worried because he hadn't peed since coming home at midday yesterday but then at 8am he went into his tray and peed for his country!
At vets at 10-45!

Re: UPDATE: Henry at Emergency Vets!
Was scared to check this thread this morning!
Although it's very common for rabbits to have runny eyes and nose with teeth problems, Molly had neither symptom before either dental.
It is beginning to sound like a dental problem, isn't it?! But he eats so much hay!
Let us know how you get on.

Re: UPDATE: Henry at Emergency Vets!
He went to the vet again this morning. Saw the practice owner, Richard. An examination cleared his stomach and gut ... things back to normal there. No tooth spurs, tushies okay. However he has what Richard believes (hopes) is just an infection in his nasal passage and not snuffles. He's on Septrim anti-biotic twice a day for that and I'm syringing him Rabbit Recovery every three to four hours. He will take the RR better than the Critical Care I was giving him. Now his gut/stomach is okay I'm feeding him a little fresh grass and a few dandelion leaves which he his enjoying. But he is still sitting around with his eyes closed looking miserable ... hope that's just due to the nasal infection and exhaustion, nothing worse.
I left him for a couple of hours to go for the weekly shop and he was still sitting miserably in the same spot when I got back. But now he's taking the RR and eating grass I feel a little more optimistic.
He's booked for another vet visit tomorrow afternoon at 4-15 but only if there's no improvement.
