Do you mind a couple of questions?
Are they both male?
Where did you get Otto from?
What is Oakeys gender?
What kind of living quater will they have?
He might not like head rubs who whatever reason.
I would need more info please.
Good to her from you. Warm welcome to you and the buns!Wave

I would just take it a bit at a time hun and let him get used to you gradually.  Also leave something in with him which smells of you is a good way of your scent becoming familiar to him.  Good luck with the bonding.

Lol c.bolduan...ok
erm....
Oakey is female and my new bun otto is male
Otto was bought from a farm park sort of place (its a nice farm park, we visit often)
At the moment i have them in pens side by side seperated by one piece of mesh, ottos pen is maybe 5ft x3 ft and oakeys a small breed so hers is a little smaller, this is a temporary setup whilst they bond they will have a full half room together when bonded and free run around the house time at night, i also have a big run outside for them for when its nice
Oakeys husbun died last week we are all still very cut up about it and we are expecting this bonding to take some time.
Thankyou Jo Smile i will definitely do that ill put an old t shirt in! xx

That sounds good! Male with female bonding:love:Love
Give it time and space you should be ok
Don't rush it.
He might miss his previous hoomin. Allow to grief , yes bunnies do this!
Take it steady, he might not like to be nose rubbed because he does t know.
Welcome to all of you!
Each hopper will have loads of ideas and advice. Keep us updated and it will flow to you.Very Happy:love:Hugs

Is OTTO neutered? At three months if unneutered he will be starting to "feel his feet" so to speak. His hormones will be kicking in and he will be asserting himself and starting to show his masculinity. That might make him unresponsive to human attentions, especially with a female close by. And with Oakey having so recently lost her partner there is a good chance that his scent is lingering and that will affect Otto as well.
If he isn't neutered and you intend to neuter him you should discus it with your vet now.
To get him to relax to stroking try the old brush on a stick trick, fix a soft bristled brush on a length of cane and when he's eating introduce the brush, gently and on his back only. He will associate the gentle caress with the happiness of eating good food and pretty soon you will be stroking him and gradually you can progress to stroking ears and face.

Thankyou woodwench thats an excellent tip i will try that tomorrow! He isnt neutered yet but i had him to my bunny vet for his vaccinations and first health check and apparently they dont neuter til around 10 months in giants! I was really shocked! Its a bit like great danes apparently i think they need to get a lot of their growing done before they take the hormone s away otherwise it can affect their growth and joints. Its going to be a lonnnnnng 10 months! Especially as the unneutered male smell is very pungent with him xx

I have just recently bonded my new male Jasper to my female Becky and having done bonding both ways now I've found bonding a male to an existing female more difficult. Obviously it does depend on the individual buns, but females can get defensive of their "nests" with a new male coming in, where as with a male whilst they might be a little territorial they can be more open to female company.
And I second woodwench, get him neutered as soon as you possibly can. Before Jasper was done all he wanted to do was hump Becky, which of course she didn't find amusing Hmmm

Awh thanks for picture comments guys Smile. I have double checked in a few places and i believe it depends very much on the vet. Even within the bunny savvy vets. I think ive found a bunny savvy vet who will neuter from four months (theres a large population of conti buns that have been nneutered at 4 months on another group im on so seems good) so yeyyy fingers crossed i can get him snipped soon and bonding with me and oakey will go a little better xx
