Vibes for Flo please Empty Vibes for Flo please

Post by Guest Fri Aug 14, 2015 12:42 pm

Not something I have had ask for very often, but Flo is off her food. I noticed last night, she had gone very quiet and I could not get her to take any form of food willingly so I syringed her some recovery as well as giving her extra metacam as well as some ranitidine just in case. She is not better today. She ate her metacam on shredded wheat, but so slowly that I had to remove Bruce to stop him eating it. I have had to syringe feed her twice already this morning and she is sort of letting me, which I find very disconcerting. She did bit the end of the syringe right off this morning leading to me massaging her mouth to get her to spit the plastic out, but other than that she is not really putting any effort into avoiding the situation. She has done some very long sausagelike poos this morning. She is moulting like mad, as is Bruce, but she has done that before without issues. She is currently hiding under the lavender for safety, as you can see.

We are off to the vets at 3. Bruce also needs to be checked over as he is showing signs of significant arthritis now, but I will allow him that at age 11.

So she's had some vetergesic and some subcut fluids and fingers are crossed. I have to give some more ranitidine. But right now she is tripping on the vetergesic.

Bruce has been put on metacam permanently. We discussed the potential causes of his back leg issues but decided that being as the outcome would be the same we opted not to put him through the hassle of an xray.

Well Flo is ok, but definitely not right.

She has eaten a little breakfast this morning but not with the enthusiasm or gusto that she would normally. She is also not moving around as much so I am beginning to think that she has sprained something. She had been jumping over 3ft chicken wire fairly recently so it could be her back again. Or it could be the mix of the muggy weather and her moult. She is currently outside with Bruce sniffing the grass - or at least that is what i think she is doing because she isn't really eating it.

They've flipped! Flo is now eating but Bruce is not. He even took up the hiding place under the lavender earlier.

I think it is moult and it has also been very muggy here. The metacam, ranitidine, recovery food trick has worked for Bruce and he has eaten grass and veg this morning.

Great, good news. They probably enjoy the scent of the lavender, it may relax them when they feel so miserable with moulting and "hairy tummies".
These moults are awful. Henry is still at it and it's his scut area that's bad now. He's having bouts of stuffy nose and sneezing ... a really fierce bout of sneezing will clear his nose and he's okay for a day or so. He looks like a right tatty old git. It's groom, groom, hoover, groom. And I have a scuffy that is great for clearing the fur from the heaviest bits of carpet/rug. I even have to scuffy my armchair because he lies with his rump pressed against the back.

I pulled a pike of fur from Bruce that was about 3/4 the size of him last week and he looked no different afterwards! scratch

I left the blackout blind most of the way down today to reduce the heat and both buns were lively when I got in just now.

Really good news. Nothing like a happy rabbit to come home to.
I'm still very nervous about leaving Henners after he was so poorly. I did an hour out in the garden this morning but kept looking in through the window at him ... just in case. Shopping last week was awful, I was a nervous wreck worrying about him.
