Vhd2/hay
I cannot get the VHD2 vaccination here. I've called round everywhere!!!
I spoke to my vet who has assured me that although no rabbit is 100% safe, Molly and Junior are very low risk, due to our location etc.
The only very small concern he has was the fact we source our hay from England. Hay for pets. He said if I wanted to reduce the risk further, I should source hay from Scotland.
I have contacted timothyhay.co.uk and they are sending me some samples of both hays they sell.
I'm just curious, is this a step you guys would take or am I overreacting??

If it gives you that extra peace of mind, then yes, go ahead.
I haven't had Henry vaccinated at all this year... you all know why.

Re: Vhd2/hay
Thumper why can't they source it?
My vet got stock. Shall I ask to see whether it can be send to your vet?
Yes forage and hay may be another source but surely vaccination is the best protection

Re: Vhd2/hay
Holly had her vhd2 vaccination last Tuesday when the vet told Paul it should be done every 6 months. It was £25 which wasn't bad at all and I am glad she is now protected.

Re: Vhd2/hay
Timothyhay.co.uk are sending me some samples. Hope they like it!!
I would much, much prefer to have them done but I'm getting nowhere.
Thank you for the kind offer but this is something Sparky's humum has already explored for me. Her vet was fine with it, my vet was fine with it, but because it needs to remain chilled, it was a logistical nightmare
I'm just going to have to keep my fingers crossed.
I entirely agree! Vaccination is absolutely the way this should be handled but I can't get it. Believe me, I have tried None of the vets up here are taking it in. They all tell me Scotland is free of VHD2 so it is unnecessary. There's talk on FB of a confirmed case in Moray but vets say this is not true. And right enough, when I ask on FB for someone to back it up, I get profound silence!!! I even tried vets4pets. And tbh they were just arsey!!! Another vet (not mine!) told me that VHD1 was present in England for 6 years before they vaccinated up here.c.bolduan wrote:Thumper why can't they source it?

Re: Vhd2/hay
This is madness. My vets in Harrogate ordered loads of it as they thought there would be big demand for it and now they have loads in stock that's not being used as well as they had hoped... In the meantime you're pulling your hair out trying to get a couple of doses!

We don't have Companion Care here, it's Vets 4 Pets here and they were just arsey!Vince the bunny wrote:Companion care in pets at home are trying to get hold of it for me in Bristol, maybe they can do the same for you in Scotland?

Re: Vhd2/hay
Thumper2001 - I'm not sure which bit of Scotland you are in and it might be too far to travel but I've just seen a post on Facebook of a vets in Airdrie asking for anyone in the area who wants the vaccine to contact them so they have an idea how much to order.
No idea if this is of use to you but though of Molly and Junior as soon as I read it, so passing it on!
