Head tilt
So get up monday jetfire is fine.
Monday evening while running about notice she had a tiny wee stumble didnt think amything off it as she was on the lino so thought it was just a slide.
Tuesday morning she didnt eat breakfast, bit concerned so left work super early to get her to the vet gave her a wee run round before heading off but jetfire just hid in a corner and noticed another stumble. Took her to vet( new vet at same practice) checked her over and said probably her back teeth if she doesnt pick up bring her back.
Tuesday night into wed morning she did not tolerate syringe feeding well.
Wed morning straight to vets and seen mike( guy oens the practice) one look at notes and said it not her teeth i have checked her teeth previous and they were fine, im thinking an upset stomach as she didnt tolerate him touching stomach, he admitted her to asses her through the day.
Wed evening still ni change gonna admitt her to glasgow, so went up to pick her up to take her through and there a development she has developed a head tilt and rapid eye movement. So suspected E.cuniculi parasite.
No change at glasgow vet school and she gets transferred back to airdre in morning. Mike wants to try her recovery at home see if familiarity helps with the feed, he also started investigating using a injection to stop nausea feeling but the makers of it didnt have enough info for him to be confident to use it.
No change at home and she starts to look as though she spacing out for mintues at a time.
Calls mike and he calls edinburgh. Friday morning she was admitted to edinburgh vet school d1ck institute.
Ct scan, bloods taken( couldnt get enough bloods before because she kept pulling out her canula. Only got enough for the parasite test). More medicine.
Ct scan came back clear, bloods normal aprt from some muscle count( they expect it cause all the jags and injections), no gut sounds on left and very quiet on right. She nibble a ever so slighlty small bit of hay herself bit nothing after that.
Yesterday morning update no change but she does seem to like the oxbow recovery feed.
Still waiting on todays update.
Thundercracker being withdrawn and only nibbling food, his stress anorexia has kicked in due to her not being there.
Im not usually religous but please pray for my little one.

Re: Head tilt
Oh, goodness you do have such awful luck with your buns. I'm so sorry to hear of this.
Have you tried adding anything to the syringing formula? Or tried syringing something like baby food ? Not a lot, just a little to give her a taste in her mouth. Even the old standar: pineapple juice might what her appetite and get her to take the oxbow.
Thinking of you and Jetfire ... and dear Thundercracker too of course.

Re: Head tilt
Yes, as Thumper said, is she getting Panacur? I automatically thought the vets (esp The **** Vet) would have prescribed it.

Re: Head tilt
Shes on panacur ( so is thundercracker as precautionary)
Shes on pain relief, gut stimulantes and that was before she went to edinburgh theyve increased her medication so she getting something to stop the nausea feeling.
Update is she liking the oxbow recovery and she has eaten some greens on her own, not touched her pellets haybthey dont know cause she rolls on it and it goea everywhere, they are gonna asses her again tomorrow and hopefully will have a rough date of when she can come home.
We tried various different baby food. D1ck vet said just because they cant be sick doesnt mean they still can't feel sick. So they think that why she wasnt eaten.
Asked about soundwaves symptoms but his was respiratory and that parasite would not show respiratory symptoms.
Beginning to think is it something im doing?

Re: Head tilt
Sounds like she's perking up.
A friend of mine has just nursed her bun through an E.C. attack, it's horrendous but India came through well and is now back to her normal bossy self. I can't remember.... have you had E.C. in previous rabbits? I know it can be a swine and lingers in the environment for ages. I think that's why so many rescued rabbits get it, they pick it up at the rescue like India did. Dosing a new bun who seems well with Panacur is often a good idea.
I'm sure you're doing nothing wrong.... it's just rabbit luck!

Re: Head tilt
Never had a rabbit with ec before it is absoloutly frightening to watch.
Heard of it before but never knew it was an actual parasite or 80% of rabbit population carry it. Most are believed to pick ot up from there mothers.
I will be given them recomended doses throughout the year now can never go through that again with either of them.
Thundercracker is munching away at his greens hunger has got the better of him. He is so sad without jetfire.
We are cutting a door in the base of pen and the legs of thier bed, will leave one hut in and place the other bed in the pen with legs removed and will remove the bunny ramp, bridge and stairs.
Baby gate going back up at our stairs. Any elevation will be bad for her, until she adapts

Re: Head tilt
That's good they're both on the panacur.
It isn't anything you are or aren't doing, Gemma. Like Woodwench said, it's just the luck of the draw with Rabbits.
