URGENT: need your experiences
Reboot is to start on metocloprimide tomorrow. I've never had to use this on a rabbit before. The prospect of syringing it gives me the shivers. Reboot has strong ideas about oral syringing!
What does it taste like?
Do rabbits accept it easily?
Will I survive?

Oh sweetie, I wish I could help you but I have never heard of it. I hope one of our other friends on here will be more knowledgeable.

Re: URGENT: need your experiences
I don't think it's particularly unpleasant tasting. I have used it in the distant past but both my current vet practices use Domperidone as an alternative - I know that is sweet tasting. My vets don't use Metoclopramide as in some (very limited) cases it can cause painful gut cramping. Metoclopramide isn't as bad as Baytril for getting into bunnies, so he might not mind it.

Re: URGENT: need your experiences
Thanks 'Big Ears'. I'm dreading having to syringe him as in the past he struggled so much and he has back problems to take into account when handling him. I'm not to good with my hands these days due to arthritis and having had carpel tunnel ops that, while curing the nerve issues for a while, have left my hands weaker. Just getting him in a towel is hard, keeping him in it is nigh on impossible. I wish there was a way of giving it to him without syringing.
Wish me luck.... I know I'm gonna need it.

I wish you luck hunni, please let us know how you get on. It is difficult enough holding a bunny when your hands are working, not so when you have a lot of pain.

I find it is the capturing and restraining that is 90% of the ordeal (for both rabbit and human), the actual medicating isn't so bad... Even the calmest, cuddliest bunny can be a nightmare to medicate, I also dread doing it!

Re: URGENT: need your experiences
Oh, Big Ears... that's it in a nutshell. Boots loves his cuddles but he knows when it's cuddles on the menu and when it's meds! He will nip (lightly) then hard enough to bruise and then, if I persist in medicating he bites and blood is split and it aint his!

Re: URGENT: need your experiences
Holly turns into a Ninja when we try to do anything which is why we get the vet nurse to do her claws. They all go together, Holly and two piggies and then it is a massive sulk when we get back lol! It sounds as if Boots has a split personality too love
