Re: Erm he is home and i need help
Jeez.. poor lad. It sounds a bit drastic, not to say horrendous.... how long is he to stay like that?
I remember Claire Speight's lop, Saxon, having his ears super glued together to hold the up away from the surgery. But dear little chap, I've never heard of this being done to a bun before. How is he doing?
I've put cream in a buns eyes before. When I had Mister Starbuck and he had ulcers I had to put in cream everyday for weeks. It helped that he was a very placid boy but I recall it was something you had to do quickly because of the reflex flinch. After a few muck-ups we both soon got the hang of it. I hope you got plenty of drops in case of missed shots. The vets should have made certain you could do this before you went home.
Give him a big cuddly nose rub from me. He is so brave.

Re: Erm he is home and i need help
MJ gets lots of eye drops due to his artificial lenses!
He's a good boy getting them, the way we do it is just give him a handful of pellets and put the drops in while he's munching. So i use one hand to pull his eyelid up so he doesn't close his eye (I use my thumb and put a little pressure and gently pull back just above his eye does it) and pop the drops in with the other hand.
Hope that helps, let me know how you get on, I can make a little video if that doesn't make sense.

Re: Erm he is home and i need help
He is a pretty calm rabbit so far eye drops been not to bad.
Because the time i picked him up i was just given him and the discharge sheet as no exotic vets were in.
The stiches on one side have bleed ever so slighlty( you'd get more blood squeezing a spot).
He is absoloutly fine other than his ears not falling where they used to be.
I am in the other hand is really struggling the stitches are making me really ill, i have decided to call it the fear diet.
Xxx

Yes, stitches can be yuck making. I remember the stitches after my carpel tunnel ops. Stitches in my wrists gave me the heebie-jeebies. I passed out having the rights set removed.

Great! Looks like he's enjoying his food and that's the best thing ... mum's icky tum doesn't matter
Will he have to keep the brass ring? Or is it temporary?

Re: Erm he is home and i need help
As far as i am aware he will keep wee tubes in but the actual ring bits are just washers and they will be removed.
Mummy tummy has now settled since the ears are looking a lot better
He not really improved any great deal since he came home, eating but being really picky about it.
His breakkie cam last most of the day and sometimes he not even eating it all.
Each time he comes home from there it like he a different rabbit.

Re: Erm he is home and i need help
He's been through an awful lot, it's bound to have an affect on him. Let's hope he will soon perk up; it must seem strange to him, his ears feeling different and his hearing different too. He needs the normality of home and lots of love (which I know he is getting). to you and him!

Re: Erm he is home and i need help
That is true woodwench,
I never expected it to be like that or to be so extensive.
It has taken me time to actually think okay this is a lot for him and he going to take a lot of time to get back to normality.
Wee b****r has pulled one of the tubes half out, waiting to hear back from the vet
