Foot thumping ?
Hi everyone,
Sorry if this is a stupid question but do rabbits only foot thump to warn of danger ?
Lola stamps her foot everytime I put her down even though she comes to me willingly (when the boys aren't about anyway, lol).
TIA

Re: Foot thumping ?
Rosie does the same. She is absolutely terrified when we pick her up and as soon as we put her down she stamps.
I always assume it is a sign if her displeasure. Despite being so timid she is a stroppy moo!

Re: Foot thumping ?
Mine thump is they are angry, annoyed or generally want to be left alone....it can also be used as a warning to us 'two foots' not to come any closer and leave them the hell alone!
Re: Foot thumping ?
Guess she still isn't too impressed with me picking her up then, lol !

Re: Foot thumping ?
I've got a feeling Truffles just does it to show off. I was working on the other side of the garden yesterday, no-one else around, no dogs, cats, chickens or anything, and he was thumping like a good 'un!
Is it only male rabbits that do it, because I've never seen Tibbler do it?

Yeah, I'm absolutely sure he was just showing off. The first few times I went over to make sure eveything was okay, but they were fine. Tibbler was ignoring his thumping completely so she obviously wasn't that bothered either. Maybe I just have weird buns....

Re: Foot thumping ?
Carlton rarely thumps but will sometimes do it to let me know he wants attention or isn't impressed at waiting for the veggies when they smell so nice...!
Sometimes he does it it at the start of a mad run, it makes me think of alpha male chimps when they show their authority!

My lola was thumping like mad the other night, I have to say they do thump but often at really random times. Rory has done it when he wants letting out of his cage.

When Gloria is put in her hutch at bedtime, she shoots into the bed part and thumps really loudly as if to say, 'go away!' Wolfie never thumps, but he is a braver bun than her, so maybe they are more likely to do it if they are timid buns and get scared more easily.

When I pick Twinkle up to do her "bum inspection" she seems to enjoy the cuddle, but as soon as I put her down she thumps and does a little squeak/growl at me and scarpers

Tango used to do it loads when he lived in my bedroom. He did it I think it to tell me he was cross for not letting him out. It was 3am in the morning and the bedroom wasn't rabbit proof for me to be asleep when he was out.

Re: Foot thumping ?
My two hardly ever thump, whereas Harvey before them was a big thumper - I had to keep his door closed at night as it would wake me when he thumped in the night.
I have never heard Tarquin thump, but Bella does it now and again - she thumped when we had that earthquake earlier this year - it was that that woke me up rather than the earthquake. And she definitely thumps when she's not pleased with me - I always know to leave her alone if she thumps when I'm doing something she doesn't want me to do.
