Guys please help
Not sure what to do. Jack has taken a turn for the worse. She is lying on floor with blue lips. I don't know whether really it is time to let her go amnd end this suffering. Help please. She isn't my rabbit and I don't know what to do.
Re: Guys please help
Can you get hold of helen at all Charlotte? It's a really bad sign, she needs oxygen at the very least.
What else did the vets prescribe yesterday? Poor little girl, it's just so unfair

Re: Guys please help
Did the vets say her lungs were noisey?
I don't really have an awful lot of experience with this because once Calli started to gasp for breath everything happened within 15 minutes but I raised her chest up and gave her a snugglesafe to keep her warm.
Have you called the vets yet? If this is going to be a prolonged condition, as in last days, I think I would be seriously considering PTS. Could you get any oxygen to use at home?

Re: Guys please help
Well spoken to vets who say that there is nothing else she can have today as yesterday mefs will still be in her system. She could have more oxygen but they have a vet shortage and can't bring it to me today as an emergency has just come in. If she had it it would only work for that time and not after. It was no use yesterday once she had stopped having it and they say that they can't keep them on it long term. The Baytril is to fight any infection that may be there. They have said that if this is continued tomorrow, then she should poss be PTS as it will be considered suffering. She is not as good as she was yesterday
Re: Guys please help

Re: Guys please help
Can you ask the vet if millophyline (sp) injection would help? It opens up the airways.

Re: Guys please help
Just seen this under contra-indications:
Do not use in animals less than 3 kg body weight.
Re: Guys please help
Doesn't matter, they use that to cover themselves as it's probly not licensed for buns. I used it on Fi (1.8kg) for over a year in her nebuliser, twice a day, and she's now recovered and was none the worse. Jay from Ebony Eyes uses it on her buns too.

Given the circumstances I don't think there is much to lose either way.
Charlottes vets would probably need a dose rate though, do you know what it equates to in rabbits?

Any news on Jack?

I can't find the dose ratio but Fi was on 0.75 injectable in neb drug container and she was 1.8kg, hopefully the vet would be able to find out from a colleague or vet hospital............ grrrrrrr! this is so frustrating..........
Re: Guys please help
Just asked Charlotte to find out what her weight is, she's just a tiny little Nethie.
Apparently she's no better

Re: Guys please help
They have told me that she was allowed no further drugs today.... however tomorrow she could so I will ring first thing for this drug. What animal is it licensed for. Is it something they will hold? They are saying that the airway up the nasal cavity is so badly scarred from the infection before that this is a real tricky situation to be in. She hasn't eaten or drunk for about 8 hours now.

Dogs, cats & horses.
Something must have triggered this though because her nasal cavities must have been scarred for sometime. No new bedding, air freshners or sprays, incense or scented candles? Any fires?
Have you been syringing fluids?
