Get yer pumpkins out!
I haven't carved mine yet but I thought it would be fun to have a thread showing off our artistic carvings this Halloween!
The pumpkins over here are, for lack of a better word, pants, so I had to get a couple of little ones. But they made this!!!
Have yet to sample it but the recipe is yummy... and I made the pastry myself

They are very anaemic looking pumpkins
I am sure the pie will be scrummy I had home made pumpkin pie a couple of years ago, really tasty.
We are party poopers in our house and don't do Halloween

We carve pumpkins every year! I have bought some nice fat pumpkins, but we haven't carved them yet! Just getting some decorations up, too!
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE pumpkin pie! When I was growing up, we ALWAYS had them for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Re: Get yer pumpkins out!
Well the very insides should (the stringy bits and seeds). all you need is:
- 1 pack shortcrust pastry enough to line a decent sized pie tin or similar. I made my own so was harder to judge how much I had. If you want the recipe for that it is very easy to make your own
- 450g pumpkin flesh I had around 750g as that's what I managed to scoop out of those darned pumpkins so it doesn't matter too much if it's not exactly the right amount
- 2 eggs + 1 yolk
- 3oz/90g brown sugar I used caster as I can't get brown over here and it worked fine
- 1tsp cinnamon
- 1/2tsp ground/grated nutmeg
- 1/2tsp ground ginger
- 10fl oz/300ml double cream
- Set the oven to 180C
- Grease your baking tin and line with pastry
- Put the pumpkin in a pan with a little water, put the lid on and let it gently steam until soft
- Sieve pumpkin gently to remove excess water and place aside
- Whisk the eggs in a bowl
- Place sugar, spices and cream in a pan and gently bring to boil. Allow to simmer for 1-2 mins
- Pour cream mixture over eggs and whisk briefly
- Add pumpkin and whisk/stir to leave an even creamy mixture
- Pour into tin
- Bake 35-40mins or until a golden orange colour but still slightly wobbly in the centre
- EAT
Re: Get yer pumpkins out!
I'm sure those are some kind of squash hibred masquerading as pumpkins! I found a site that sold artificicial pumpkins the other day, apparently they are easier to carve.
I'll get a pic of mine up next week when it's done.

Re: Get yer pumpkins out!
When I was over in Ireland, I was absolutely amazed by how seriously they take Halloween in Londonderry. The whole town is decked out with decorations. People have their front windows decorated and stuff in their gardens. They have a great parade through the town and finish with a big fireworks display. I think some of it is to compensate for not celebrating Bonfire Night on 5 November.
