Halloween Pumpkins.
Who is buying pumpkins for Halloween?
We always buy 2 and make them into bunny pumpkins and the kids that come trick-a-treating love them.

And sometimes I decorate the front of our home for a laugh, this was at our old house before we moved here.

Yodaphine wrote:LOVE THIS!!! I was only saying to my OH this afternoon that I might do bunny pumkins this year...I did a Michael Jackson Thriller, and a jack skellington pumkin last year, it was hard work, and I had to work on em in 2 or 3 seperate sittings, but I was quite chuffed with the result....
Wow they are fantastic! they put our bunny ones to shame that must have been so hard to do they are brilliant

Re: Halloween Pumpkins.
It was the first time we had carved pumkins believe it or not....I kinda cheated a bit and used a stencil, could no way have done it free hand. The Jack skellington was easy peasy...but I had to admit, doing the MJ one very nearly cost me my sanity and self control...the fiddly bits were infuriating!

Re: Halloween Pumpkins.
Oooh =^o^=
If there is one thing I do like it's carving pumpkins at halloween.
Here are a few axamples of my own work.
The Slush puppie painter 2009
Vauxhall motors pumpkin for my cousin 2007
Cabbit Pumpkin 2005
Carved shark fin melon 2005
These glow white and have dark skin , I always carve them in this style.
This years main pumpkin ( 2011 ) The General Malice ( vinyl rec label ) cats. This one is gonna be big and will wrap around the pumpkin much like the Vauxhall pumpkin did slightly in 2007

Re: Halloween Pumpkins.
They are amazing! I really like the melon one. Such a simple idea to use a white fleshed fruit for variety.
Yodaphine, the MJ one is amazing. You must be soooooo patient.
Maysie, bunny pumpkins are just brilliant. The ears are great. bet the kids love coming to your door. xx

Re: Halloween Pumpkins.
It's not actualy a melon , it's more of a gourd. Actualy I dont know what it is lol . The asain's usualy cut the top off boil them up to make a soup base. But you can eat the flesh as it is , if you can get around all the pith and seeds.
I get the seeds each spring from the local Chinese takeaway shop. The were origionaly known to me as Kevin's monsters , until I saw a BBC Drama called grow your own , and subsequently found out they were called Shark fin melon.
When halloween comes up each year , I always get excited carving these unusual fruits.
Four whimsical gourds 2008 , these little guy's were a bit late, so these were in my flat.
My first puking pumpkin 2007
Several carved pumpkins and gourd uplighters. 2003 35mm film camera print
Rather more demonic pumpkin 2010 , seemingly burning hotter than the fires of hell .
Two party globes from 2007
.
.
End

Standard design pumpkin ( nanci and gary's pumpkin )
Jojo in the stars pumpkin ( Replacement pumpkin )
Staplehurst
2011
.
.
IKUE pumpkin 2011
This was done quickly to use a pumpkin that had started to rot internaly , that I was supposed to be taking down to family the next day to carve. I had to turn it lid up and scoop out some yukk before washing it out and carving.

Re: Halloween Pumpkins.
From Staplehurst to Addiscombe ( Olds's House )
The larger Kevin's monster's ( skark Fin melon ) this year are so ripe that their skins have gone hard. Luckily I had this little late chappie on the allotment. he was nice and soft , in fact he's positively glowing.
Unlike the other chap that appears to have sustained a rather nasty injury to the side of the head , most likely caused by that axe nearby.
My first traditional style axe head pumpkin.
