Poor little Alfred - U/D
So I took Alfred to the vet on Saturday because he had some nasal discharge. My vet said it looks like he has pasturella She said she thinks we caught it early, his lungs still sound pretty good and he is acting fine (eating, pooping, hopping about as normal). She started him on Baytril for the infection and Benebac to stabilize his tummy while he's on the antibiotics. She took a culture to send to the lab as well just in case.
I am having the hardest time getting him to take the medication, he runs at the first sight of the syringe! I used to be able to put it on his paw and then he'd lick it off (because he won't let it anywhere near his mouth) but now he's wised-up to that and just runs I'm trying to get him to eat it off of apple slices but he won't go near the pieces that has the medicine on it. The silly little bun isn't going to get better if I can't get the antibiotics into him!!
Anyway, if I could get some get well vibes for Alfred he would appreciate it!

What a shame. At least you caught it early so hopefully he will be better soon. Vibes for you both.

Re: Poor little Alfred - U/D
So just an update on Alfred. I took him to vet yesterday for a re-check to see how his meds were working and all that. She said his lungs sounded really good and that she definitely thought antibiotics were working and he should be just fine!
I'm supposed to keep giving him the Baytril for a week or so more just to make sure the infection is gone. He is a very happy bunny, eating and drinking and hopping about as always. Alfred says thank you very much for the get well vibes!

Re: Poor little Alfred - U/D
aww so glad he is picking up (and sorry I missed this Rice!)
Sadly with Jack I just had to get Steve to hold her like you would burp a baby and I would just have to grab her face and squeeze the syringe into her mouth. After a while she just accepted that it was part of daily life she was on meds for so long.
I hope Alfred gets better really soon. He is such a little man!

I thought about getting hubby to help me feed him like that but Alfred stresses so easily (the little weanie ) I didn't want to risk it if I didn't have to!
He's actually done very well to eat the food that I put his medicine all over, I squirt it on his cabbage and he eats it that way
