keeping your rabbits fur white?
What is the best way to keep your rabbits fur white and healthy looking and not an off white color?
Re: keeping your rabbits fur white?
I don't really do anything for my buns' coats. They both live outside and tend to be lovely and white all the time, so they keep themselves clean. Sometimes Wolfie has a bit of a digging spree and he can look a little grubby, but them he goes off and cleans himself up.

Re: keeping your rabbits fur white?
mowgli's always kept clean grooming or rosie grooming him never had any probs, however they used to get wee stained paws, but then i started to use cat litter wood pellets in their litter tray with hay, and now they have pure white paws again

Re: keeping your rabbits fur white?
The bottom of his paws are white because his indoors, but I was thinking about all over the main body. His white but as his not treated at all his most likely gone off white over time. Reason I ask is because I was looking at photos of the same breed and others and they look a lot whiter, probably because they are show buns, so there must be way to keep their coat sparkly clean. Was just interested to know what they did.

That might be because if they are producing a photograph of their rabbit for professional reasons, they might have photoedited it. You can alter the colour balance to give the photo a 'bluer' tone or a warmer tone. It doesn't mean that the rabbit being photographed was a pure white as it looked in the picture.

Re: keeping your rabbits fur white?
These where not enhanced, I know because part of my job is air brushing photos and you can normally tell.
McQueen in my av photo isn’t enhanced and he is very white, he was a lot whiter then though. Just wanted to know if there was treatment of if it was just lifestyle.

Maybe their fur just changes to a more creamy colour as they get older.

Re: keeping your rabbits fur white?
McQueen, sorry completley off topic, but have you read a book called 'Encyclopaedia Of Rabbits and Rodents'?
I took it out from the library to help me with my art project, and I found a pretty desriptive section on there about Giant Papillions. I can scan it in for you if you would likes a look!

Re: keeping your rabbits fur white?
That was a good read, thanks hon
Looks like McQueen is a Havana Brown then
His spots at the side merge which why he was at PAH as a dud
No wonder he acts the way he does I would as well if I was classed as useless and thrown away
Never had a Flemish but they sound similar. Paps are very long and there ears are also extremely long. I am not even sure how they stand up! It’s sad to see they where bread for meat but I don’t understand why they went to all that hard work to cross breed French lops and Flemish giants to come up with a new breed for meat.

Nah They just look like Flemish buns but with longer ears.
I don't think any breeder with a brain in their head would cull them as they know they can make money out of them.
Re: keeping your rabbits fur white?
I have had white rabbits come into rescue and have been a yellowy white but with grooming them they soon become white again, all my REW's are all white and haven't gone an off white
