Dilys Chicken

I'll post a proper tribute when I'm not so upset, but my sweet Dilys chicken went to the bridge in the night. She wasn't even a year old and I'll miss her terribly.

Thank guys - it seems that Dilys may have been attacked by a rat. She was always the smallest and weakest of my hens and it looks as though the little thugs got tired of stealing her food and decided to go for her. I feel so guilty, I try so hard to keep the rats away, but they seem to be cleverer than me.

She was such a characterful little thing - beautiful black feathers with a greenish sheen to them, and she loved to people watch. Her best friend Dora had just taught her to climb up on top of the chicken house and I'd often catch them out there in the evening cuddled up together when they should have been in bed! She was always very proud of herself when she laid an egg too, and would strut around crowing for at least half an hour.

Sleep well Dilys - I'm sorry I let you down. Alf will take care of you at the Bridge xxx

Oh Kathy I'm so sorry

Don't be too hard on yourself - rats are sneaky and determined when they want something and would probably have got to her eventually.
