Bonding a Trio
Hi everyone,
The time has come to attempt to bond my three remaining buns after Martha died, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I've got 2 successful bondings under my belt - Martha/Walt (very traumatic at first but led to a very close bond) and Lene/Bee (much more straightforward bond but less close due to Lene's moody nature ). I have a feeling this will be more complicated though.
Walt has been left lonely and sad after we lost Martha and I think now's the time to attempt a bond. Walt and Martha seemed fairly equal in the relationship so I'm not really sure if Walt will be dominant or not although he is a very confident dog-like bunny. Bee (the isabella) is an absolute pushover and has succumbed to Lene's bossy nature, she still chases him sometimes when it's feeding time although they are fine together most of the time and do groom etc. The bond has never been as close as Walter and Martha's.
Do you think it's besy to just start like I would a pair? All three, small space, act as a bouncer, hope for the best?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Bonding a Trio
Wow, can't believe how well this is going! No fighting, no chasing and all three have groomed each other! Walt has mounted Lene a bit but it didn't bother her too much and now they're all sat with their heads together! So far so good!

Re: Bonding a Trio
When I bonded Bri to Charlie + Jack I started by moving his hutch right next to theirs so they could see each other 24/7. I let them out first at different times (as Brian was brand new) and then at the same time. We had a big garden and there would sometimes be scuffles but only between the two boys and they soon settled down.
I think proceeding as you would a pair is best to start with and alter the situation as you see fit. See which two will conflict (if any) and work from there.
I was incredibly lucky with all my bonds and I hope you enjoy the same luck!

Re: Bonding a Trio
I think that's why this has been so successful, all the buns lived side by side in the spare room for 6 months so they have been used to each other, I went in this morning and all is calm, no fur pulled, no injuries, nothing! Just 3 happy buns lounged out together x

Re: Bonding a Trio
Becky, my trio was the easiest bond I ever did and it was made up of two males and one female.....personality really is everything. I had two submissive males and a dominant female so they just gelled into a natural hierachy. I had no mounting, chasing, biting or fur-pulling just flops & grooming & eating.
The second time I bonded them (I took the girl out to live with a single bereaved male for a few months until he also passed) they were re-bonded in under an hour!!!

This is just the same Sooz! lol! I really can't believe it, the two boys have gelled really well and Lene is just the same as ever, still looks a bit moody but joining in with the grooming and snuggling! It's great x x

Re: Bonding a Trio
Well, over a week later and we're still happy families! They don't have full run of their room yet because I'm worried Lene will become territorial, but actually I think I'm worrying about nothing. They're in a 6ft x 3ft run right now which they escape from daily, lol, they managed to invade the food box yesterday and I found 3 big bunny buns sticking out of the food, lol! My buns weren't meant to be confined! lol
