What does this sound mean ?
Hi,
Can any experienced Bunny owners help.
Lotta has always been the one who would be really hard to get hold off but most of the time it didn't take me long to pick her up. Anway, past few weeks whenever I go to put my hands round her to pick her up she shots around hutch/run making this sort of grunting squeaking noise. Scares me incase she bits but she never has (yet).
What does the noise mean ? Is she really scared of me still ?
Makes me feel like a right **** Bunny Mummy :o(
Lola on the other hand tolerates me and will let me pick her up and cuddle/stroke her :o)
Any advise greatly received.
TIA
Jenny x

Re: What does this sound mean ?
It sounds to me like she is a bit frightened still. Mimi made the same noise when I tried to bond her, she is petrefied of Lola. Dont worry though, she will soon get used to you and trust you.

They can grunt if they are annoyed too. Wolfie's grunt can sometimes be a real piggy noise and other times a bit asthmatic! It depends what's happening. Mine HATE to be touched, held and sometimes even stroked! They are especially enjoying their 9 day Panacur torture session which has comprises of being manhandled, having their beloved cabbage adultered and being locked in until they bloody well eat it!

Hi,
It's weird though cos it's only been in the last couple of weeks. I have had her since she was 9 weeks old, she is now 7 months old :o(

It might be that now she is older, she is a bit more territorial and doesn't appreciate you putting your hands into HER territory. Has she lunged at all? Has she been speyed? Unspeyed females can sometimes object to people invading their space.

Re: What does this sound mean ?
She has never tried to bite me or attack me in anyway, she is unspeyed !
Once I get hold of her she will let me cuddle her and stroke her but once she realises I am gonna put her down she tries to leap from my arms (which can be quite dangerous and hurts cos she scratches)

Re: What does this sound mean ?
Alfred will sometimes make the noise you describe when I try to pick him up. He didn't used to do it when I first had him either, it's only the last few months. It's almost like he's just figured out how to make the noise so now he does all the time
I know he's not hurt or anything like that, I just chalk it up to him telling me he's irritated

If I hold Carlton for too long, he does a big grunty huff at me to let me know he wants to get down, he's only started to do that since he turned one.
Sounds like you have a head strong independent madam on your hands! :luv:

Re: What does this sound mean ?
My Bramble does what I think is the same noise.
He does it when he has been outside and doesnt want to be brought back in!!! LOL hes pretty grumpy when he wants to be and very big, so if he wanted to do damage he most certainly could. Buthe is the most loving, caring bunny ever when he wants to be, I love my Brammie x

Re: What does this sound mean ?
In my experience a grunt is definelty attitude from a teenage bunster, I have one that still grunts and growls at me but I stand by what I said and say a squeek is a frightened bunny. Either way I am sure she is starting to trust you. Good luck.

Re: What does this sound mean ?
Wolfie has been grunting all week as I have been trying to get him to take his Panacur (only three days to go thank God!). I now only have to put my and in the hutch holding either a syringe or a piece of veg with suspiciously white stuff on it and he is off grunting. He has been so stroppy with me this week.
