Would you like to meet Icarus?
Oh my GOD what a f****** hassle that was. I don't know if you remember all the trouble I had with the midwife not booking scans until late late late? Well she actually didn't book us a scan today, she booked us a doctor's appointment. Thinking what? That we'd turn up and NOT REALISE we were not having our scan today? I am so angry with her I can't even talk about it but needless to say Mr B will write a letter of complaint about her.
I barely held it together, Mr B was excellent but basically after a couple of hours sat around the doctor was really nice and rang her friend up on the gynae ward who happened to have a free slot so we DID manage to get a scan. They don't do nuchal translucency so I'm going to the private place today to see if they can fit me in tomorrow (should do, FX) for that. I almost came home with no scan and no pictures
ANYWAY! I HAVE GOT PICS! They couldn't print anything out but hubby took 70 photos. Icarus was in a very odd position, it took her ages to find the head (probably due to my then-empty bladder. I held it in for 2 hours but nearly wet myself so had to go ) and do the measurement but he moved around SO much. He didn't keep still for 2 seconds it was incredible.
And he has TOES!!! :o :happydance: I know that sounds weird but I was amazed that you could see his toes! And his little beating heart :luv:
Anyway I measured 13w5d (YAY) so my new changeover day is going to be Saturdays from now on weird!
Here are the pics. They are a bit blurry due to a) movement, b) camera shake and c) dodgy position.
Curled up:
Curled up facing away, showing spine:
Spine and eyes!
Side on photos, head on the right:
Bum shot, complete with FEET
Head on, with a leg sticking out on the right:
Head on again
Look at the EYES!
The obligatory "Punisher pic" )
Me!

He did didn't he!! I was dead impressed.
I managed to book the scan for 1130 tomorrow at the private hospital. They would have had me today but Mr B's working
I am very addicted already and can't believe that I can't feel something that moves around SO much inside me!! I am in love :luv:

Re: Would you like to meet Icarus?
Oh I will do, you will be sick of grainy B+W photos tomorrow if you're not already now
Re: Would you like to meet Icarus?
That is so lovely. What a shame the day had such a bad start, but I am glad that you got your scan after all.
You are going to end up calling him/her Icarus you know, cos you'll use it that much you'll get really used to it!

Yay! Those pics are really good, it must be an amazing feeling to witness Icarus moving about. Glad you got sorted in the end today, good luck for tomorrow.

Re: Would you like to meet Icarus?
I'm so happy to see this little one I agree with Nickie, your child will have to have Icarus in it's name somewhere
It's thought to mean 'I follow', which would make sense as he was following his dad when he went too close to the sun.
I think that's an apt name If it's a girl, it could be Icarunia

Re: Would you like to meet Icarus?
You guys are amazing you know. Being a group of people I have never met (save one Charl) I am so touched by all your comments.
There is no way I am naming him Icarus (or Icarunia ) but it will most probably stick until after the birth. I don't think I'll be able to settle on a name until I meet him anyway.
It was so strange seeing this little thing literally doing somersaults in my belly and not being able to feel it! Bizarre.
And yes, that STUPID midwife will get hers don't worry. I am dreading my next antenatal appointment (which I have no idea when it is as she refused to give me a date . She really is useless )
Can't wait for my next one now. Hopefully having a full bladder will help put him in a better position

Re: Would you like to meet Icarus?
To do the NT testing. He stayed much stiller this time (probably due to my enormous bladder ) but it was just AMAZING to see
We are very low risk for Down's with a NT measurement of something like 1.4 I think she said, and a nasal bone already formed. Which is great! The heartbeat was 144bpm and Crown-Rump Length measured 73.5mm. Here are the pics, he even saluted his daddy at the end
Sucking his thumb!
Swallowing
Curled up, facing away
Measuring the heartbeat:
Looking down on his brain
And Saluting Daddy. His face is on the right in profile, with the little arm on the left:
I measured 13w3d today. So I now have 3 different measurements: LMP = 13w2d, yesterday's scan = 13w6d, today's scan = 13w3d
Which date should I take?!?!

Re: Would you like to meet Icarus?
I would go with the one from the nuchal scan, as they have to be so accurate to measure the nuchal bit right, I'm sure they must be more accurate at measuring the CRL too.

Re: Would you like to meet Icarus?
fab pics - it makes it all soo real dont you think. i loved having all my scans
Just a random question but what happens in terms of registering birth etc will Icarus be classed as a Bruei citizen and have a passport for there not a UK one? sorry if this has already been asked but i was just wondering.

Re: Would you like to meet Icarus?
He will be a Brit. I have to get a local birth certificate and then trot down to the British embassy soon after, fill in some forms and they get me my UK birth certificate and his passport.
By the by, how ridiculous is it that a newborn baby has to have its own passport... With a photo and everything. Yeah, 'cos they're not going to change much over the next few years
I remember I was on my granny's passport until I was about 10!
I was just in awe of this little thing. Yesterday was amazing because he was moving around so much, doing flips and somersaults etc. Today was amazing as he stayed stiller so we could see things like him taking big gulps of fluid and swallowing them, rubbing his face, sucking his thumb and stretching.
It's literally a 7cm human being inside me somewhere. Mental. I still can't relate what I've seen on the screen to my podgy belly, I'm wondering when it's going to sink in that I will actually have my own child in 6 months or so
