18 hours from Stasis to fine UD again :)
What a scary few hours I've just had. I don't know how peoople who aren't members of forums get their buns through things sometimes, I'm so grateful for what i learn here.
The last 3 days Berts has been ravenously hungry, and chewing loads more than normal. I figured something might be up, then yesterday morning after brekky he adopted 'that' pose, went off to 'that' place to sit and didn't move again until I got home at 3 ish. Symptoms were'nt bad, he wasn't in pain, just not interested in food, so I gave him infacol and massages, as he was making gurgles.
He normally has his dinner 5.30, wouldn't look at it and by 6.30 I'd started to syringe feed him. By now he was certainly in pain, well hunched, the odd tooth grind, so i gave him a 10kg dose of metacam. After 1/2 an hour or so, there was no change, which is when I got worried. About 8.30, I picked him up from his toilet where he'd been puddinged out, to find the little guy covered underneath in runny sludge It was really smelly, sticky, not black, just like thick mashed SS pellets, and there was quite a lot of it. We showered him off, got him cleaned up and dried, and he went off into his 'sick' corner, and I set up a tray, hay/herbs bowl, water, and got the air bed out and settled in for the duration.
I kept feeding him mashed SS and recovery every hour. Over the next 6 hours I gave him 2 more doses (5kg) of metacam , and water with probiotic every hour. It took till 3 a.m. before he started moving of his own free will, and by 3.30 he'd started to eat hay. I must have fallen asleep after that. Paul woke me up this morning, and Berts was running around with Bertrude in his mouth
I'm keeping him off veges for the next few days, just hay, herbs, and SS, and will monitor him closely, but so far it seems we are over the worst.
is it me or do HH bunstas seem to get the same things at the same time? It seems Berts is not alone with this.
Thanks to Theo for taking a call from me x

Man it is so stressful. You become acutely aware of every little thing don't you. You are just doing an incredible job. Thank goodness Berts has you. x

Re: 18 hours from Stasis to fine UD again :)
Thanks for your wishes, and I'm gutted to say that the incident last week has pushed us back to where we were 3 months ago beofre Berts had his diagnosis.
I've spoken to the specialist and he has upped his pain relief and it's likely that he'll be going in for more investigations next week. I have no idea what's happened, but he's having exactly the same presentations as before, 1 day on, 1 day off food. I'd allowed myself the blissful state of relaxing about it all
I just want him out of this stress, it's not good for him or us. I'll keep you posted.

Oh Jay, I'm so sorry, I really thought you'd got to the bottom of Bertie's problems. As you say, just when you begin to relax and thinkl it's all sorted . . . . .
Lots of hugs, roserubs and snuggles for you that you do get some answers.

Re: 18 hours from Stasis to fine UD again :)
It must feel like you have taken a huge step backwards, does the specialist feel that there is another underlying problem or more that the former diagnosis was incorrect to start with?
Re: 18 hours from Stasis to fine UD again :)
Thanks peeps x ^^ not that the diagnosis was incorrect, I've sen the X-rays myself, the arthritis is clearly there, but he just said he needs to have further investigation. Something physically may have happened, that's made it suddenly aggressive, it could be something completely different, he didn't offer any thought over the phone. I think John always x-rays, so I guess that'll happen next week
Re: 18 hours from Stasis to fine UD again :)
What's the weather been like your way recently....often cold & damp inflammes arthritis in people and dogs.
Re: 18 hours from Stasis to fine UD again :)
S'funny, cos I did think of that Sooz, we did have a cold snap for a few days and it's been damp for a couple of weeks. My old dears class have been complaining too. I don't know if the messy even is tied into what's happened subsequently or not either. I hope we find out next week.
I think I need to do some deeper research into bunnythritis, can anyone reccommend anything?

No sure if I gave you this link before or not but it leads to a range of publications on arthritis: http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/rabrefs.html#arthritis

I give my oldie bunnies Glucosomine but I buy the pure stuff and get it direct, please don't waste your money buying the 'watered down' stuff it really is a waste of money, do you want the details?

Re: 18 hours from Stasis to fine UD again :)
I did ask about glucosomine, and was advised not to give him it yet, I'll ask again next week, thanks Theo
Re: 18 hours from Stasis to fine UD again :)
I'm glad to say that we've had a good few days. Specialist advised me to up the Metacam dose to 12Kg, twice a day, and he's responded well.
Finding Bertie's lowest dosage limit was always going to be a trial and error thing, and I suspect he's been on too low for 3-4 weeks. When I see him bounding around now, I can see the difference. Because the withdrawal from 10kg - 4 has been very gradual, I haven't seen that his energy has been slightly under par.
I'm speaking to John again tomorrow, we'll decide wether he needs another examination then.
Thanks for all your good vibes and wishes, we're very grateful
