Duchess
my poor duchey is not well
she has lost a lot of weight over the weekend and i assumed it was her teeth again she has been to the vets and they say her teeth dont look too bad but are worried about her. she has had some bloods taken and they are being tested asap for liver, kidney functions etc, she is booked in for a dental on thursday to take a couple of small spurrs off her teeth and they will do a full check up whilst she is under, the vet also wants to check her over fully for cancer we think/thought she was only 2-3 years old so still a young lady although the vet thinks she is older than this and is checking her over as though she was an old bun she could still feel poops and stuff in her tum and duchey is still eating so fingers crossed she will stay strong. poor babe sat perfectly stll as they took blood from a vein in her little ear took ages as there wasnt much coming out (they had to try from both ears) she is now sporting 2 little bald ears bless her hope to get the bloods results back soon and she is in for her dental on thursday fingers crossed she will be ok

Re: Duchess
Please let us know how she is progresing. I am sure Jane will be along soon with some ideas. x
Re: Duchess
Im sorry to hear she is unwell has her behaviour changed in anyway at all? Has she started to drink or unrinate more? Is she avoiding certain foods or eating slower?
Re: Duchess
i think she is eating slower a few weeks back i thought she was favouring one side of her mouth a bit but her teeth werent apparently bad just getting small spurrs which is how it remains today. dont think her behaviour has changed particularly was grumpy today but she has grumpy days anyway and she seemed quiet at the vets but she is always well bahaved there and never makes a fuss.
i really hope it is just her teeth maybe right at the back as the vet did say she couldnt see right to the back so they may be a mess there but she wanted to wait until bloods were back before putting her under a general

Re: Duchess
When Pippa was checked over we couldn't see any serioyus spurs on her teeth but a GA revealed that she had a very nasty sharp on right at the back of her lower arcade digging into and ulcerating her cheek which had put her right off of her food.
Tolerance to dental issue's seems to vary rabbit to rabbit, some eat like trojans with the most horrific spikes and other stop eating as soon as the crown overgrows! Hopefully she is one of the sensitive souls and nothiong more sinister is going on.

Re: Duchess
fingers crossed it is her teeth she went exacrly the same last time it was her teeth and she was dribbling a bit which i thought was odd if they werent too bad but i would rather be 100% sure she is ok for the general than do it first and find out later, they did say that if the results were back in time she could move the dental up to wednesday and obviously if she goes off her food t all she will be back up there like a shot. the vet was more than happy for teegra to go with her which was a weight off my shoulders as last time they were seperated she went on hunger strike and kept picking up her bowl of food and throwing it at me will be giving her some porridge to help her weight.

Re: Duchess
Make sure the porridge is well soaked before feeding it. You might want to move her onto a higher protein pellet if her tum is OK with it, my more weightloss prone dental rabbits have Excel Junior and Ready Grass to help boost their weight.

Re: Duchess
thanks she is now in got to ring back after 2pm so going to take my mind off things and spend the time giving their room a really good clean out and swap their toys about etc. looked at the blood results her fat levels are normaly showing it isnt due to her not eating her gamma GT (or something) levels are over 2000 when they are supposed to be under 100 and her bile something levels are over 80 when they are supposed to be about 10 they have told me the GA will be risky as she is already in a critical state i have been told there is a high ris she might not cope with the GA but we had to try the dental incase she has got a manky tooth and sorting it could prolong her life. they might scan her whilst she is under but depends on how she is coping
thankyou all for the vibes she really neess them

Re: Duchess
just spoken to the vet. her teeth were not the problem although they have taken any sharp bits off anyway just so they are ok. once under GA the vet had a good feel of her liver and scanned her and her liver is very hard and nasty she said she will probably just continue to deteriorate until it gets to a point when it would be kindest to let her go she is already eting again and back with her special teegra boy i am picking them up at 5pm and then we will just have to wait and take each day as it comes
