Good bonding news!
Hi!
I have 3 does, all 3 of which I have tried to bond with my buck Cid. He's a very odd little boy, he doesn't show any sort of typical bunny behavior like my other bunnies, he never rubs his chin on anything. he doesn't stomp, and sadly, doesn't binky. He doesn't like moving around too much and whenever he is out of his cage he sits in the first corner he can find. After a while he will start doing the head-bobbing 'rabbit being cautios' thing, and move a little way.
I took in this little guy from a friend who really wasn't looking after him well. Before that he came from a breeder who was a friend of a friend. Apparently he was kept with his brother (Unneutered) and they fought all the time. Poor Cid is covered in scars, mostly down his back end and his ears.
Anyways, like I was saying, I have tried him with my 3 does to see how he would react. My first 2 does are quite strong characters and on each occasion they just tried to mount him, and wouldn't stop (And they are spayed!). I tried him with my third doe who was younger and hadn't yet been spayed. And again, she tried to mount him, too. Ans she's about half the size of him!
When she was old enough I got her spayed, too, and when she recovered I tried her again with my poor little boy. And, it went really well! She didn't try anything funny with him. And, he even sniffed her, which is amazing for Cid! He didn't move too far out of his corner but she kept going back to him.
There was a little hitch when she was trying to groom him - She's a nibbler and she started to nibble down his back. He didn't like that much, but I took her away for a little while & when she went back they were fine again.
When I went to put Cid back in his cage I noticed he was casting big chunks of fur (it grows in funny around his scars), which is why I think she may have been nibbling him, to try and pull the fur out. After I noticed this I gave him a good brushing and his fur is back to its usual condition now.
And, when he was back in his cage, he didn't run away and hide like usual, he came to the bars to see me, which is a first! Im very pleased with how he was doing yesterday.

Re: Good bonding news!
That's so lovely to hear. It's very rewarding when your perseverence with a bond results in two happy & contented bunnies who obviously enjoy each others company.
I wish my Juno wasn't such a little madam and would accept a friend.

Well I was worried Cid wouldn't make friends with anyone :-)
Im gonna let them have some more time together again today and just increase the time they spend together and see how it goes.

Re: Good bonding news!
Just when you think things are going well!
Ive been getting Bea and Cid out regualrily everyday to spend some time together. On a whole, things have been going well, except they both like to nibble each other. And they both don't like it! So, they will nibble each other then get annoyed that they are being nibbled! This is especially true for Cid, Hes such a huffy little man, I just don't understand him.
Anyways, they were just out before, as usual, and it really wasn't going great. It was fine at first, they were even playing with toilet roll tubes together (Simplest things, sometimes..) But then.. Cid started getting stroppy and there were the starts of some fighting.
I just don't understand him. Lately he's been acting 'more bunny', I even saw him stand on his back legs, he's been moving around so much more and being more lively. So, I take that as a sign he's happier when he's with Bea.. And then he goes and attacks her..
Its as if he has no sorta bunny social bondaries.. The little man worries me. Today seemed like one step forward, two steps back..
Anyways, here's a picture of the 'happy couple'.
Another thing - Has anyone else experienced a bunny like Cid & can offer any advice?

Re: Good bonding news!
What a beautiful pair of bunnies
Well done on getting them together
Am I understanding it right though that they are spending time together and are then being separated again? Are you wanting them to be together 24/7? If that is the case then splitting them up repeatedly may slow down the bonding process. It would be a good idea to try and bond them and leave them together when you are around for a couple of days to supervise.
Good luck, it must be so heartwarming to see Cid blossom as a bunny

Well done. I am hoping to introduce a male into my bonded pair in the Spring, so hope it goes as well as yours did.
