I think im loosing Bramble bun :(
My beautiful harli bunny Bramble is getting old.
I left my OH to feed everyone this morning and he came in saying Bramble hadnt eaten anything and was hiding, VERY unlike him.
He always comes out every morning and wants loads of attention.
Today he was huddled in his bed not wanting to get out.
Hes gone very skinny around his back and I can feel his hip bones, ribs, back bone, even his chest bones easily.
I have moved him into an indoor hutch, packed it with hay and given him his little cat basket to snuggle in with blankets etc.
He just doesnt seem himself.
PS Bramble is the boy in my siggy and avatar.

Re: I think im loosing Bramble bun :(
I am sorry to hear Bramble is not so good today
If he is still not eating, and especially with the weight loss, I think you need to get him checked over by a vet ASAP, tonight if possible.
Sending vibes for Bramble.

Re: I think im loosing Bramble bun :(
He had been to a vet a couple weeks ago when i noticed he was a bit 'off'
They checked him and said it was just an age thing, and that I should just keep him comfortable.
My dad is a bit upset becasue he really loves Brammie, but even he has said just to keep him warm and see where we go from there, dont want to stress him out too much if poss.

Sorry to hear about Bramble. He is a beautiful boy, how old is he Kate? I can't say this with any certainty or experience, but those symptoms could relate to other things as well.
Glad you're keeping him comfortable,

Hes about 6, I was told the average age for his breed was about 4 or 5 after I had him, so am really pleased hes still with me now.
He is such a special bunny to me, he goes in the garden with me in the nice weather without a harness/lead and comes when I call him

Re: I think im loosing Bramble bun :(
Has he eaten anything? If you can get him to the vet you need to, they could maybe give him a Metaclop jab to get his tummy moving again. Has he done any poops?
Re: I think im loosing Bramble bun :(
Iv given him some warm bran mash [his favourite with ribena shh :p]
and he has eaten a little bit off my finger tonight.
He has done some poops yep, so im not too worried about that side, just he is now so skinny, not like my big chunky boy at all
He didnt look up when I called him just now either, hes usually biting at the cage as soon as he knows im around bless him. I gave him a pet and put a blanket over his shoulders, he seemed to be thankful as he rested his cheek on my hand.
I really hope he gets better

Re: I think im loosing Bramble bun :(
I was going to suggest something warm and soft might help encourage him to eat. I assume his teeth were checked out by the vet when you took him a couple of weeks back...
Porridge oats are good for helping to keep weight one, a few well soaked in warm water or mixed in with the pellets. He may also benefit from a higher protein pellet too, like A&P Breeder Grower or the Excel Junior, provided he doesn't then develop excessive ceacal production.
The cold will definately not be helping so having him inside until spring if possible would be hugely beneficial, if not possible he may benefit from having a 'snuggle safe' outside. My trio of babies have theirs heated twice a day at the moment.

Re: I think im loosing Bramble bun :(
I definately think you need to be more insistent with your vet, this sounds like there is a problem, rather than old age. x
Re: I think im loosing Bramble bun :(
He seems a bit perkier this morning, I think he was just so exhausted from the cold.
Hes eaten some flaked peas and mash.
Will make him some more mash later.
I wondered about putting a hottie bottle in with him wrapped in a towel, but was worried he would chew it ???
Hes having excel mature pellets at the moment.
